Veterans Day is marked by appreciation for
service
In many communities served by Frontier Communications
Corporation (NASDAQ:FTR) in 28 states, Veterans Day culminates a
series of activities in appreciation of those who sacrifice for our
country.
Thirteen percent of Frontier employees are military veterans and
reservists. Today, each is receiving a Frontier “Challenge Coin” in
recognition of their service to the nation. Challenge coins date to
Roman times and became a tradition that builds camaraderie in the
military. Frontier created a special challenge coin to honor the
dedication of its military employees. Each coin is accompanied by a
letter from Frontier’s President and COO, Dan McCarthy, himself a
veteran, and is being presented during ceremonies led by Frontier’s
senior leaders.
All Frontier employees saw a video produced by Frontier’s
Veterans Affairs team, led by the company’s Assistant Vice
President for Veterans Affairs, Gregg Barratt, an active member of
Honor and Remember and President of the Connecticut Chapter of the
Patriot Guard Riders. The video features Frontier’s Mike Flynn,
President of the Mid-Atlantic Region and Scott Yates, a Technical
Supervisor based in Lewisburg, West Virginia.
Employees are also asking support for the company’s campaign to
raise funds for The Armed Forces Foundation (AFF), a 501(c)(3)
organization dedicated to supporting and advocating for active-duty
military personnel, National Guardsmen, Reservists, military
families and veterans. For every story posted to Frontier’s Stories
of Service tab on Facebook the company is donating $5, up to
$5,000, to the AFF. The AFF educates Americans about Post Traumatic
Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury and advocates for troops
and veterans suffering from these and other hidden wounds. Stories
from or about a veteran, active duty military, or anyone with a
veteran or active duty loved one are welcomed.
Frontier continues to support Honor and Remember, an
organization dedicated to the creation of a flag as a national
emblem of lives lost in service to our country. Today in Meriden,
Connecticut, company representatives presented a personalized
“Honor and Remember” flag to the family of Specialist Fourth Class
Michael J. Dinda, 19, killed in Vietnam on December 29, 1969. Dinda
was a former employee of the Southern New England Telephone Company
(SNET), recently acquired by Frontier from AT&T. Connecticut
Patriot Guard Riders formed a Flag Line at the company’s Dispatch
Center at 1441 N. Colony Road in Meriden, Dinda’s former worksite.
Attending the ceremony were members of the Dinda family; The
Honorable Manuel A. Santos, Mayor of the City of Meriden; State
Representative Catherine Abercrombie (D-Meriden); Frontier
leadership and employees; veterans living in Meriden, and other
honored guests.
Frontier also continued the tradition of laying a memorial
wreath at the foot of New Haven, Connecticut’s World War I Memorial
flagpole, located on the Green.
Frontier is a member of The Employer Partnership of the Armed
Forces and has partnered with organizations focused on recruiting,
hiring, training, assimilating and retaining veterans. The company
participates in Joining Forces, The Military Spouse Employer
Partnership, the 100,000 Jobs Mission, Honor and Remember, the
Patriot Guard Riders, Homes for Heroes, Operation Write Home, and
The WorkPlace. Frontier was named a 2014 “Top 100” Military
Friendly Employer® and a 2014 Military Friendly Spouse Employer®.
