OIL GIANT TOTAL CEO DIES IN MOSCOW PLANE CRASH
French oil company Total said Chairman and Chief Executive
Christophe de Margerie died Monday in a plane crash at a Russian
airport. He was 63 years old.
APPLE'S SALES IN GREATER CHINA SLOW
Record demand for new larger-screen iPhones helped lift Apple's
earnings in the latest quarter, but the technology company's
revenue growth in Greater China, which includes Hong Kong, Taiwan
and the mainland, slowed sharply.
IBM PULLS PROFIT GOAL
International Business Machines has abandoned a longtime
earnings target, reported sharply lower third-quarter profit on a

SWEDBANK PLANS JOB CUTS TO LOWER COSTS
Swedish lender Swedbank Tuesday reported a 9% jump in
third-quarter net profit and said it would cut between 600 to 800
position over the next two years, mainly through attrition, to
lower costs.
GIC BUYS TOKYO OFFICE PROPERTY FOR $1.7 BILLION
Singapore sovereign-wealth fund GIC said it has acquired prime
office space in the Pacific Century Place Marunouchi building in
central Tokyo, in a bid to grab a slice of the Japanese capital's
hot property market.
ABBVIE, SHIRE TERMINATE YEAR'S BIGGEST DEAL
AbbVie and Shire officially agreed to terminate their $54
billion deal, killing the year's biggest agreed-upon merger and
giving a win to the Obama administration, which has fought overseas

AMERICA MOVIL RAISES STAKE IN TELEKOM AUSTRIA
Mexican telecommunications heavyweight America Movil said it
obtained an additional 8.7% of Telekom Austria in an extended
purchase offer, bringing its stake in the European company to
around 59.7%.
FASHION DESIGNER OSCAR DE LA RENTA DIES AT 82
Oscar de la Renta, a renowned American fashion designer famed
for his glamorous red-carpet gowns and smart suits for ladies who
lunch, died Monday evening at the age of 82, a spokeswoman for his
fashion house confirmed.
