Applied DNA Sciences, Inc. (OTCBB: APDN), a provider of DNA-based
anti-counterfeiting technology and product authentication
solutions, will be a Silver Sponsor of a major Intellectual
Property Crime conference, to be held in Madrid on September 20-22.
In recent years, the conference has drawn some of the largest, most
effective anti-counterfeiting and anti-piracy security
organizations globally.
The International Law Enforcement IP Crime Conference is
co-hosted by Interpol, Europol and the Cuerpo Nacional de Policia
in partnership with Underwriters Laboratories (UL). The conference
has traditionally highlighted the truly global and rising scope of
counterfeiting, piracy, and illicit trade.
APDN has recently taken its place on the world stage, having
become a rising force in security and anti-counterfeiting
world-wide. The company protects more than a third of the cash in
transit in the UK, is engaging in a major pilot program with the
U.S. military (Defense Logistics Agency) which is fighting
counterfeit microchips, has contracted with a Mexican manufacturer
to authenticate police uniforms, and counts many more such
initiatives.
The Law Enforcement IP Crime conference has played a critical
role in past years in coordinating international police efforts
against counterfeiting and illicit trade. The various security
agencies have made clear in past meetings that counterfeiting is a
thriving and integral part of illicit global trade, which includes
human slavery, arms traffic, and drug running. In past conferences,
trans-national trends have been spotted that are now well known. In
2009, for example, it was noted that Colombian drug organizations
had begun leaving the illegal narcotics business to move, instead,
into counterfeiting. (Judge Ronald Lew (Sr. US District Court Judge
- Central California)).
Brian Monks, of Underwriters Laboratories (UL)
commented:
"We are very pleased to have APDN as a sponsor at our Madrid IP
Crime Conference. UL is always looking for innovative technologies
to help identify authentic products and APDN's DNA marking solution
is a leading edge tool for law enforcement and brand protection to
help accomplish this goal."
Dr. James A. Hayward, Ph.D, President and CEO
of Applied DNA Sciences states:
"The Law Enforcement IP Crime Conferences have shown the urgency
of adopting strong and reliable technologies against
counterfeiting, such as DNA authentication programs. We are certain
that a bright spotlight will be trained on the problem this
September."
