Inphi Showcases Porrima 400G Gen2 Single-Lambda PAM4 DSP with Integrated CMOS Driver Demonstration at OFC 2019
March 05 2019 - 8:00AM
OFC 2019 -- Inphi
Corporation (NYSE: IPHI), a leader in high-speed data movement
interconnects, today announced that it will showcase an
electrical-optical interoperability demonstration of its new
Porrima™ Gen2 PAM4 platform solution in booth #4013 at OFC 2019 in
San Diego, CA March 4-7, 2019. The demonstration will show optical
link performance over single-mode fiber, featuring Inphi’s new
Porrima Gen2 DSP with integrated laser drivers directly driving
electro-absorption modulated laser diode (EML) lasers from
Mitsubishi Electric Corporation.
This demonstration shows that capability for complementary
metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) based DSP to drive EML optics
directly at 56Gbaud. Traditionally in order to drive EML, a
standalone non-CMOS modulator driver chip is needed to provide the
required input voltage swing. With technology advancement in EML
diodes and Inphi’s expertise in electro-optical and high-speed
mixed signal CMOS capability, optical transceiver module vendors
can eliminate the need for standalone drivers, saving bill of
material cost and reduce the total power consumption.
The new Porrima Gen2 platform, based on the successful and field
proven Porrima chipset, enables client optics module deployment for
both 400Gbps and 4x100Gbps applications with breakout mode support.
Porrima Gen2 leverages multiple generations of DSP development and
optical platform expertise with an API-based DSP software suite
that achieves quick time-to-market with the right trade-offs in
power and performance for data center optical interconnects.
“Our interoperability demo with optical partners, such as
Mitsubishi Electric, proves the capability to drive optics directly
with Porrima DSPs with integrated CMOS drivers, which provide a
path to significantly reduce the module cost and power
consumption,” said Siddharth Sheth, SVP, Networking Interconnect at
Inphi.
“We have developed high-performance EML technology and are
prepared for the 400G market ramp. With the synergy between Porrima
Gen2 DSP and our EML products, we are confident that we can deliver
superior solutions to customers,” said Hiroshi Aruga, General
Manager of Electro-Optics Technology Department, Information
Technology R & D Center at Mitsubishi Electric Corporation.
