Deutsche Post AG (DPW.XE) workers will continue warning strikes
this week, beginning with international post handlers at the
Frankfurt am Main airport Monday from 1000 GMT, labor union ver.di
said.
This is where the lion's share of international mail is
processed, and is likely to result in the delay of around 800,000
letters and 700 packages, the union added.
"With this strike, the international mail division is doing its
part to urge the employer to reach a collective bargaining
agreement with ver.di," ver.di spokesman Detlev Borowsky said.
The union is demanding a 6% wage increase for 132,000 Post
employees represented in a new collective wage pact to run for 12
months, and improvements for around 43,000 civil servants as well
as trainees. The parties failed to reach an agreement in the second
round of negotiations on April 15, and postponed further talks
until April 25. Post employees have been conducting warning strikes
on and off since April 17.
