Rio Tinto PLC's (RTP) Richards Bay Minerals venture Friday appointed Elaine Dorward-King as managing director, succeeding Cameron McRae who is stepping down after three years in the post to become president and chief executive of Rio Tinto's Oyu Tolgoi copper-gold project in Mongolia.

Dorward-King, who has worked for Rio Tinto for 18 years and currently is global head of health, safety and environment, will take up the new position at the South African company Dec. 1, Rio said.

In another move, the U.K.-headquartered company said Richards Bay Chief Operations Officer Themba Mkhwanazi has been seconded to Rio Tinto Coal Australia as a general manager. Themba has been with RBM, which is co-owned with BHP Billiton PLC (BHP), for three years.
