Honda Motor Co Ltd ADR $HMC Is On My Radar

Honda Motor Co Ltd ADR(NYSE:HMC) is a leading Japanese manufacturer of automobiles, motorcycles and power products, including general-purpose engines, generators, water pumps, lawn mowers, riding mowers, grass cutters, brush cutters, tillers and snow blowers. The stock topped out in February 2018 at $37.29 a share. Since that high pivot, the stock has declined. Today, HMC stock is trading around $32.36 a share. Traders should note, HMC stock is trading below it's important 50 and 200-day moving averages. This formation puts the stock in a weak technical position on the charts. Traders must now look lower for major support. The next important support level for HMC stock should be around the $30.50 level. This is a major retrace level and also an area where the stock broke out in October 2017. Often, this level will be defended by the institutional crowd when tested.

Honda to stop making natural gas car, to rely more on fuel cells

DETROIT, JUNE 15 | BY BERNIE WOODALL
Honda Motor Co will introduce a new hydrogen fuel cell vehicle in 2016 and stop production of its natural gas Civic, the U.S. sales head of its American Honda auto division said on Monday.

John Mendel, speaking with reporters in Detroit, said the company had sold about 16,000 natural gas-fueled Civic compact cars since 1998 in a limited sales area of the United States. He said the falling price of gasoline relative to natural gas helped lead Honda to deciding to drop the car.

Mendel also announced the end of production of the Accord plug-in hybrid, to be replaced by another plug-in hybrid before 2018.

The fuel cell vehicle will be a "dedicated" model but Mendel did not disclose its name. Honda showed a concept of the fuel cell car at the Detroit auto show in January.

Mendel said Honda is shifting its focus on electric vehicles, including hybrids, and in doing so will introduce a new unnamed plug-in hybrid vehicle and a fully electric battery-powered vehicle by 2018.

A Honda spokesman would not say whether the three new vehicles will share a platform on which the cars are built.

Honda will also stop selling the Civic hybrid version when the Civic's new model year begins with the primary gasoline version this fall, Mendel said.

He said Honda was serious about making the natural gas car work, but that market dynamics and consumer preference have shifted.

Mendel said any inconvenience for customers of alternative fuel vehicles, such as not being able to find a refueling station, will put them off. But he added that he is more confident of a robust hydrogen fueling station network than he was for natural gas stations, in large part because he expects more government help in establishing a hydrogen refueling network.

Honda did not say where its hydrogen fuel cell vehicles will be sold, but said the infrastructure is expected to be developed first in California. (Reporting by Bernie Woodall; Editing by Dan Grebler)

AIAA Bestows 2012 Aircraft Design Award on HondaJet Design

Sep 19, 2012 07:00:02 (ET)

GREENSBORO, N.C., Sep 19, 2012(BUSINESS WIRE) -- HondaJet Designer, Michimasa Fujino, was presented the 2012 American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Aircraft Design Award. Fujino is president and CEO of Honda Aircraft Company, Greensboro, N.C., which produces and sells the HondaJet, an advanced light jet aircraft that delivers class-leading performance, fuel efficiency, comfort and quality. The AIAA Aircraft Design Award is considered the most prestigious recognition for aircraft designers in the world.

Fujino received the award on Sept. 18 at a luncheon held as part of the 12th AIAA Aviation Technology, Integration and Operations (ATIO) Conference and the 14th AIAA/ISSMO Multidisciplinary Analysis and Optimization Conference, running Sept. 17 - 19 at the Hyatt Regency, Indianapolis, Ind.

The AIAA Aircraft Design Award honors a design engineer or team for the conception, definition or development of an original concept, or career contributions leading to significant advancement in aircraft design or design technology. According to the AIAA, Fujino is being recognized for "pioneering the unique optimum Over-The-Wing Engine Mount (OTWEM) configuration that reduces wave drag and increases drag divergence Mach number. This unique Over-The-Wing Engine Mount configuration significantly increases cruise efficiency and, at the same time, maximizes cabin space without increasing the size of the aircraft." During development of the HondaJet, Fujino published several technical papers on theoretical design methods and experimental results to prove this unique design concept. He also contributed to AIAA by presenting several lectures on aircraft design and development at universities and industry conferences.

Fujino said, "The AIAA aircraft design award is the highest honor, and I am honored by this recognition. I am so glad that HondaJet's unique Over-The-Wing Engine Mount technology is acknowledged as a significant technological advancement for aircraft design. On behalf of the entire HondaJet team, I would like to express our appreciation to everyone who supports this HondaJet project as we continue our endeavor to deliver the world's most advanced light jet."

Past recipients of the award include Joseph Sutter for the Boeing 747, Harry Hillaker for the F-16, Burt Rutan for the Voyager, and Leland Nicolai for AGM-129/ACM.

Optimum OTWEM configuration reduces wave dragon the wings, while increasing the wing's drag divergence Mach number, thus increasing the aircraft's performance and fuel efficiency. Also, by eliminating the engine support structure from the fuselage, it is possible to maximize cabin and luggage space without increasing the size of the aircraft. By employing this unique technology, the HondaJet offers the best performance and comfort in its class.

Fujino added, "As a leading mobility company, Honda will continue to invest in future innovations and contribute to the evolution of advanced technologies. Our goal is to be a company that society wants to exist. The development of the HondaJet, and its innovative Over-The-Wing Engine Mount design, has been one of those revolutionary engineering processes at Honda."

With 35,000 members, AIAA is the world's largest technical society devoted to the progress of engineering and science in aviation, space and defense.

Honda's August U.S. Sales Jump 60% on Gains in Both Divisions

1:13 PM ET 9/4/12 | Dow Jones By Nathalie Tadena

Honda Motor Co.'s (HMC, 7267.TO) U.S. vehicle sales climbed 60% in August as the Japanese auto maker reported strong demand in both its namesake and Acura divisions.

However, results fell shy of expectations from car-shopping website Edmunds.com, which had predicted Honda to record a 61% jump in sales. Broadly, Edmunds estimates U.S. new-auto sales for August to climb 20% from a year.

Honda reported it sold 131,321 vehicles in August, up from 82,321 last year and 12% above July's total. Car sales increased 78% while truck sales jumped 42%.

Honda division sales--which include the Fit, Accord, Odyssey and Pilot--were up 58%. The much-smaller Acura luxury division's sales were up 73%.

Accord sales increased 89% while Civic sales more than doubled. CR-V sales rose 44% and Odyssey sales improved 61%. In the Acura division, RDX sales more than doubled to set its fourth-consecutive record sales month.

"It's clear that demand for Honda products continues to be strong, and we're on track to post our best yearly sales results in four years," said John Mendel, American Honda executive vice president of sales.

August had 27 selling days, while the year-ago month had 26.

Japanese auto makers' results were hurt last year after a March 2011 earthquake and tsunami disrupted production and squeezed parts supplies. However, Honda reported in July its fiscal first-quarter profit surged more than fourfold, as sharp sales growth in the U.S. and Japan and fully restored production after disasters last year offset the yen's strength.

Earlier Tuesday, Chrysler Group LLC reported its U.S. auto sales were up 14% as the company reported broad growth across its brands. Ford Motor Co. (F) and General Motors Co. (GM) posted sales gains of 13% and 10%, respectively. Fellow Japanese auto maker Toyota Motor Corp. (TM, 7203.TO) saw U.S. auto sales climbed 46% in August, while Nissan Motor Co. (NSANY, 7201.TO) reported a 7.6% sales increase.

American depositary shares were off 1.2% to $31.51 in recent trading. The stock is up 3.2% over the past three months.

Honda overtakes Toyota in parts supplier survey
Honda unseats Toyota as top business partner among parts suppliers; Ford bests GM, Chrysler
Dan Strumpf, AP Auto Writer
On Monday May 25, 2009, 3:23 pm EDT

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Honda-overtakes-Toyota-in-apf-15340373.html?sec=topStories&pos=main&asset=&ccode=

NEW YORK (AP) -- Honda Motor Co. overtook Toyota Motor Corp. as the top company that auto parts suppliers prefer to do business with, according to an annual survey released Monday.

Toyota has been the No. 1 automaker among the parts suppliers since 2002, but its ratings have fallen steadily over the last two years, according to a study by Planning Perspectives Inc., a Birmingham, Mich.-based company that surveys manufacturing and service industries. Honda's marks declined from last year as well, though not by as much.

Japanese automakers continued to boast the best relations with their suppliers, with Nissan Motor Co. coming in third among the six automakers ranked. Ford Motor Co.'s supplier relations improved dramatically for the second year in a row, coming in fourth, followed by General Motors Corp. then Chrysler LLC.

"While Ford still has a lot of work to do, what they're doing with their suppliers is working," said John W. Henke, president and chief executive of Planning Perspectives, in a written statement.

Suppliers who work with Toyota complained of a younger, less experienced staff at the Japanese automaker's purchasing group, Henke said. It said Ford's improvement was due to its recent decision to transfer its top European purchasing executive to the U.S.

Ford remains the only automaker among the Detroit Three that has not accepted government aid. Crosstown rival Chrysler is in the midst of bankruptcy protection and many of its biggest creditors are parts suppliers waiting to be paid.

GM, meanwhile, is holding out hope for an out-of-court restructuring. If faces a deadline at the end of the month to get its bondholders -- who hold $27 billion in debt -- to take a 10 percent equity stake in the company. If it is unsuccessful, it will likely file for bankruptcy protection.

Automakers rely on parts suppliers to meet quality standards, provide new technology and make investments to fulfill supply contracts. But another bankruptcy is likely to be highly disruptive to the supply base, which is already reeling as automakers cut production and idle their factories to cope with falling sales.

A total of 231 first-tier parts suppliers representing 52 percent of automakers' annual purchases responded to the survey, which was conducted over three weeks in April. The survey ranked the automakers based on degree of trust, open and honest communication, amount of help given to suppliers to reduce costs, and supplier profit opportunities, the company said.

Well, the question remains, how many $2-4M 4/5 passenger light jets can be sold?

At least a dozen manufacturers, including Eclipse, Cessna and Embraer, have announced plans to offer very light jets, which are meant for small business owners who do not need bigger planes or do not want to pay millions of dollars more for larger business jets from Gulfstream, Bombardier or Boeing.
