Dr. Andrew Lee of Harris Corporation Receives 2004 Geospatial
Intelligence Research Achievement Award NEW ORLEANS, Oct. 14
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Dr. Andrew Lee, a senior scientist for
Harris Corporation's (NYSE:HRS) Government Communications Systems
Division (GCSD), was awarded the prestigious U.S. Geospatial
Intelligence Foundation's (USGIF) Research Achievement Award during
the GEOINT 2004 Symposium (Harris Booth #112) being held October
12-14 at the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel. The award is presented to
an individual or team for outstanding leadership and research
contributions aimed at promoting the craft of geospatial
intelligence and developing a stronger community among those who
apply spatial data and geoprocessing to national security
objectives. "We are extremely proud of Dr. Lee's achievements and
honored that he has been selected for this important industry and
academic award," said Russ Haney, president of the National
Programs business unit of Harris Corporation's Government
Communications Systems Division (GCSD). "Andy and his team have
worked to enhance the field of topographical data processing so
that more accurate, wide-area topographic products can be provided
to the warfighter and the intelligence community in short timelines
and large volumes. This award not only recognizes Andy's
achievements, but reflects Harris' strong commitment to the
geospatial intelligence community." The efforts of Dr. Lee and his
team have been instrumental in proving the viability of
cost-effectively delivering large volumes of high-resolution,
highly accurate digital elevation models (DEMs) and other
topographic products with automatic processing techniques that can
be fielded in the near term. Implementation of large-scale,
high-resolution, topographic products will enable a wide range of
new products for development and exploitation applications such as
3D change detection and precision targeting. The USGIF is the first
and only foundation where members can work together -- outside
their own organizational and corporate interests -- toward a mutual
goal of improving national and homeland security. USGIF brings
together the many disciplines involved in the geospatial
intelligence sector to exchange ideas, share best practices, and
promote the education and importance of a national geospatial
intelligence agenda. Harris GCSD, one of four divisions within
Harris Corporation, conducts advanced research studies, develops
prototypes, and produces, supports and services state-of-the-art,
