PR Newswire (US)
MELBOURNE, Fla., July 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Harris
Corporation (NYSE:HRS) today announced that its Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) Telecommunications Infrastructure (FTI) team
has successfully completed the transition of all FAA sites from the
legacy Administrative Data Transmission Network (ADTN) to the new
FTI Mission Support network. Harris is the prime contractor and
system architect for the FTI program, which was awarded in 2002.
The FTI Mission Support network replaces the FAA's existing
wide-area network that transports administrative functions such as
payroll and e-mail. The FTI Mission Support network transition
included the installation of new services to more than 790 FAA
locations -- from the smallest manned radar sites to the largest
regional offices and FAA Headquarters in Washington, D.C., and was
completed one month ahead of schedule. With site installations
complete, the transition of network monitoring from the legacy
Network Control Center to the Harris Primary Network Operations
Control Center is underway and will be completed by September 30,
2006. "The successful completion of the Mission Support network
ahead of schedule is yet another great example of what can be
accomplished when the FAA's program and field offices work closely
with Harris and its teammates to meet a demanding schedule," said
John O'Sullivan, FTI program vice president, Harris Government
Communications Systems Division. "Support from the two primary
Harris subcontractors, CACI, Inc., and Sprint, was invaluable in
meeting this key Mission Support milestone and Harris applauds
their efforts." During the 15-year FTI program, Harris is upgrading
and improving telecommunications and operations functions at more
than 4,400 FAA facilities nationwide, providing the FAA with a
safer, more efficient network that is projected to save hundreds of
millions of dollars in operating costs over the life of the
program. FTI equipment has now been installed and accepted at 1,600
FAA facilities with more than 6,500 of the 20,000 operational
services accepted and in service nationwide since the network
build-out began in November 2004. Harris Government Communications
Systems Division conducts advanced research studies, develops
prototypes, and produces and supports state-of-the- art, assured
communications(TM) solutions and information systems that solve the
mission-critical challenges of its military and government
customers, while serving as the technology base for the company's
diverse commercial businesses. Harris Corporation is an
international communications and information technology company
serving government and commercial markets in more than 150

annual sales of over $3 billion and more than 13,000 employees,
