Harris Corporation Unveils H-Class(TM) Content Delivery Platform
for Public Safety at IWCE 2005 New White Paper, Session
Presentation and Booth Demonstrations Showcase Harris' Solutions
for Supplying the Right Content to the Right Responder at The Right
Time on the Right Device LAS VEGAS, April 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/
-- Applying broadcast-quality technology in support of
mission-critical, first-responder communications will be the focus
for Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) at this year's International
Wireless Communications Exposition (IWCE). Harris will debut its
H-Class(TM) content delivery platform for supplying video, audio,
and data to police, fire, and emergency medical service first
responders. Known collectively as "rich media," video, audio, and
data applications can include content such as video surveillance
feeds, crime scene mapping, aerial photography, mug shot imagery,
and building schematics, along with municipal records, driver
license information, and forensics (Harris Corporation, Booth
#8035, IWCE 2005, Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas, NV, April
6 - 8). The H-Class content delivery platform for public safety
provides agencies with a cost-effective and highly secure way to
deliver rich media to first responders while overcoming existing
bandwidth limitations and complementing existing network
infrastructure. Further, the approach removes obstacles to inter-
and intra-agency data interoperability. "The existing value of the
U.S. public safety wireless radio network is said to be in excess
of $20 billion. IT spending within the public safety industry will
reach $8.7 billion this year and grow an estimated six percent
annually, reaching $10.8 billion by 2009 or about 12 percent of
total government IT spending," said Stephanie Atkinson, senior
analyst of In-Stat, a market research firm that focuses on advanced
communications technologies. "Public safety agencies are exploring
and implementing high-bandwidth applications that bridge together
legacy infrastructures while enabling cross- jurisdictional
information sharing to link local-, state- and federal-level
agencies. The interoperability and flexibility of Harris' content
delivery platform is well suited for public safety applications
that require scaling by content and by type of emergency event."
Harris executive John Delay, director of strategic management for
Networking and Government Solutions, Harris Broadcast
Communications Division, is the author of a new white paper on the
content delivery platform that will be released at IWCE. Delay will
deliver a presentation on this topic entitled "Widening the Pipe:
Developments in Content Delivery for Public Safety." The paper and
presentation examine an integrated approach to content management
and distribution in an environment in which public safety agencies
are being asked to securely apply a rapidly growing amount of rich
media from a rapidly growing number of sources in support of
intelligence gathering and decision making. Delay will present on
Thursday, April 7, at 3:00 p.m. in room N112 of the Las Vegas
Convention Center. "Harris' Broadcast, Microwave, and Government
Systems divisions have deployed mission-critical products and
services at both the federal and municipal levels for years," said
Delay. "We see the introduction of our content delivery platform
for public safety as a natural extension of our work with these
long-time customers and, for the Broadcast Communications Division,
a natural application of the core competency we gained in enabling
broadcasters to reliably deliver content to their audiences."
Demonstrations of H-Class content delivery platform, along with the
Harris Intraplex SynchroCast(R) system for multiplexing, will be
available to IWCE attendees at the company's booth. About Harris
