Jordan Telecom Commissions Integrated Network Management System
from Harris Corporation CANNES, France, 3GSM WORLD CONGRESS, HALL
6, SUITE N21, Feb. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Jordan Telecom
(JT), the largest telecommunications services provider in Jordan,
is using Harris Corporation's (NYSE:HRS) NetBoss(R) network
management platform to provide centralized support of its
nationwide telecommunications network. The NetBoss system is the
centerpiece of a new Network Management Centre (NMC) commissioned
in late 2004 by JT, which offers fixed-line telephony, Internet
access, ISDN, ADSL, leased line, frame relay, and videoconferencing
services to business, residential customers, and telecom operators.
"It was a mutual effort of JT and its technical partner France
Telecom to issue the request for quotation and thoroughly evaluate
the available products in the telecom management market," said
Abdelmajeed Bashaireh, director of NMC, Jordan Telecom.
"Accordingly, Harris NetBoss was chosen for supervision and
management of JT's core network switches, transmission and data
network. We are focused on providing excellent service quality to
all our customers, while simultaneously achieving efficiency
improvements in our internal network operations. Harris NetBoss
allows us to achieve those goals by providing our operations and
engineering staff with a centralized view of the network for
comprehensive service assurance activities. JT and Harris already
are working on the next phase of the project, automating Service
Impact and Service Level Agreement processes so we can reliably
provide the guarantees required by our customers." Implementation
of the Harris system will take place through 2005. "NetBoss is
providing Jordan Telecom with an overall view of its network for
the first time, resulting in faster response and restoration times
for improved quality of service, and lower operation and
maintenance costs," said Rich Pappalardo, director of International
Sales, Harris NetBoss Business Unit. "JT took a well-planned
approach to service assurance improvement by building the NOC,
re-engineering processes, and adding NetBoss as the key tool for
centralized operations. This is another important NetBoss project
for Harris in the region, and underscores our commitment to
customers there." Other NetBoss installations are located in
Kuwait, Bahrain, Egypt, and Oman. In addition to the core NetBoss
Manage.IT(TM) module, Jordan Telecom has deployed NetBoss Reporter,
which enables pre-defined and ad hoc reports to be issued on
overall network behavior and trends. The Build.IT(TM) module
already is enabling JT personnel to extend the NetBoss system as
the network evolves. Build.IT allows the creation of management
interfaces to network elements and element management systems after
the initial deployment by Harris, resulting in significant cost
savings for NetBoss customers. "Transfer of know-how from our
partners is a key issue for JT. Harris tools, and training enables
JT to expand the use of the NetBoss management tool to cover other
parts of the network by internal development," said Jean Marie
Garcia, chief technical officer, Jordan Telecom. Harris NetBoss is
an integrated network management application that provides users
the ability to administer and manage multivendor, multiprotocol
communications networks from a single platform. This enables
service providers to quickly detect, isolate and rectify service
issues affecting network conditions. Jordan Telecom, powered by its
partnership with France Telecom in 2000, is the first and largest
telecommunication service provider in Jordan, due to its
administration of the basic telecommunications infrastructure in
the Kingdom, which forms the base of telecommunication services.
Towards the end of 2002, part of the government's shares were
offered to the public, and subsequently, the Company's shares were
divided as follows: 41.51% owned by the government of the Hashemite
Kingdom of Jordan; 40% owned by JITCO (88% owned by France Telecom
and 12% owned by the Arab Bank Ltd); 13% owned by the Social
Security Corporation (SSC); 5.49% owned by shareholders when the
company's shares were first offered for sale to the public (SSC not
