DigitalGlobe (NYSE: DGI), a leading global content provider of high-resolution world imagery solutions, today announced the appointment of John Oechsle to the position of Executive Vice President, Strategy and Product. In his new role, Oechsle will focus on developing and delivering value-added information and insight solutions that map to customer needs. Additionally, DigitalGlobe announced the availability of a position paper from Oechsle examining the business value of critical information.

"John has a proven track record of growing sustainable revenues profitably, and his understanding of both business and technology are unmatched," said Jill Smith, CEO of DigitalGlobe. "In just a few short weeks, John has totally immersed himself in the business and culture of DigitalGlobe and is already leaving his mark. His examination of the value of content is a perfect example of how he will contribute to the company."

"As everyday business decisions become more and more complex, critical information -- not just words and numbers but also visual content -- is more important and more prevalent than ever before," said Oechsle. "In this piece, I examine how information providers who deliver not just data, but also true insight, will be best positioned for growth in today's market. I'm eager to help DigitalGlobe achieve that growth."

As CIO at IHS, Oechsle gained considerable experience understanding how information can quickly become commoditized. Available on DigitalGlobe's website, Oechsle's position paper examines the age of data overload and looks at the importance of helping clients cut through the noise by providing insight in addition to information.

Prior to joining DigitalGlobe, Oechsle has held executive positions at both private and established Fortune 50 companies, including Johnson & Johnson, Kellogg Company and LandAmerica Financial Group. Most recently, Oechsle served as CIO and Senior Vice President of Technology and Content for IHS where he was responsible for all information technology, product development, content operations and e-business on a worldwide basis.
