BMC Software Mainframe Solutions Enable Customers to Optimize
Web-Based Mission-Critical Applications Enhancements Deliver
Industry-Exclusive IP Pacing Technology and Advanced Mainframe
Transaction Management Capabilities HOUSTON, March 1
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BMC Software, Inc., , a leading provider
of enterprise management solutions, today introduced several new
solutions in its MAINVIEW(R) product family to enable customers to
meet the demands of 24x7 operations for their mission-critical
applications. MAINVIEW for IP version 2.2 offers exclusive IP
pacing technology to ensure that mission-critical Internet (TCP/IP)
applications receive priority access to IP bandwidth. The company
is also shipping new versions of MAINVIEW for CICS and the
industry's only dynamic CICS optimization tool, Energizer(R) for
CICS. Together, these solutions enable companies to get more out of
their mission-critical IP and CICS environments by reducing
downtime and improving availability and IT service delivery.
"MAINVIEW for IP has enabled us to gain greater insight into and
control over our mainframe environment and has been invaluable in
driving high levels of customer service," said Mike Welch, senior
OS/390 systems specialist for Alaska Airlines. "The solution has
simplified the viewing of the entire TCP/IP stack on the mainframe,
including viewing of connections, TN3270 statistics, OSA
information, detailed FTP statistics, trace route information, ping
information and packet and socket traces. MAINVIEW for IP is easy
to use and fits well with our current MAINVIEW solutions. The
product has aided us in resolving numerous problems and has proved
to be a great tool for Alaska Airlines." Mainframe data for Web
applications normally travels over TCP/IP networks. MAINVIEW for IP
manages these networks by simplifying the monitoring, management
and tuning of mission-critical TCP/IP applications. The exclusive
IP pacing technology in MAINVIEW for IP prioritizes the IP traffic
so that the most critical applications have the network bandwidth
they need to run smoothly. Additionally, MAINVIEW for IP version
2.2 provides an enhanced real-time tracing capability, enhanced
File Transfer Protocol (FTP) statistics and automation and a
powerful real-time stack-monitoring facility. These capabilities
enable companies to keep their TCP/IP networks running 24x7 at peak
performance levels. "Our MAINVIEW solutions are important
components of BMC Software's infrastructure management solutions.
The industry-firsts highlighted with these new product
announcements underline BMC Software's continued commitment to
provide the broadest and deepest support for the mission-critical
zSeries platform," said Jonathan Adams, BMC Software's director of
Research and Development for MAINVIEW. "Our technology leadership,
combined with our strategy to enable customers to tie that
technology to business goals, delivers unmatched expertise in the
industry." Optimization of Mission-Critical CICS Applications
Enables 24x7 Operations CICS is the backbone that supports much of
the world's enterprise server applications, linking end users,
applications, databases and data stored in VSAM, as well as acting
as the primary gateway for Web access to applications. As a
critical component in companies' efforts to Web-enable legacy
applications to feed key business applications like online banking,
Internet stock trading and online merchandising, CICS-based
applications must be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
MAINVIEW for CICS improves the operation of mission-critical
applications by optimizing CICS transactions, monitoring and
automating CICS functions and ensuring that a company's CICS
regions are tuned and performing. BMC Software has addressed key
needs for 24x7 CICS application availability with MAINVIEW for CICS
version 5.7 by adding: -- real-time system maintenance capabilities
to enable MAINVIEW for CICS maintenance upgrades to be done without
affecting service of key CICS applications; and -- application
delay analysis (real-time and historical) to enable customers to
quickly pinpoint CICS applications that are being delayed -- thus
potentially affecting critical business services. Energizer for
CICS improves CICS performance management and transaction
throughput by using exclusive, patented technology to optimize the
way the IBM z/OS operating system dispatches CICS transactions, a
capability that is essential for handling the highly variable
workloads generated by Web applications. The only solution of its
kind, Energizer for CICS dynamically optimizes and tunes the CICS
environment during peak processing and during the "valleys" when
processing is lighter. Energizer for CICS improves system
availability by eliminating bottlenecks, lockouts, and sympathetic
outages, and reduces CPU utilization and resources for all
workloads, thereby increasing throughput for existing applications
and/or the number of simultaneous jobs that can be run. Energizer
for CICS version 4.4 is integrated with MAINVIEW for CICS, and
includes a single point of display for all Energizer for CICS
regions that makes it simple for customers to understand the status
of key functions. MAINVIEW and Business Service Management The
MAINVIEW family of products enables customers to monitor, manage,
automate and optimize their z/OS and OS/390 systems through a
single point of control. MAINVIEW solutions go beyond standard
monitoring to provide dynamic optimization, application tuning,
performance reporting and predictive planning to help lower the
cost of mainframe computing. MAINVIEW solutions play an important
role in BMC Software's Business Service Management (BSM) strategy,
which enables customers to manage IT from a business perspective.
MAINVIEW solutions support BSM by enabling organizations to
proactively manage the performance and availability of critical
applications and systems. This allows customers to more closely
align availability with business service objectives and assure the
availability of the resources needed to meet business goals. The
results include a better end-user experience, faster response to
changing business requirements and lower costs for IT and business
operations. Pricing and Availability MAINVIEW for IP 2.2, MAINVIEW
for CICS 5.7, and Energizer for CICS 4.4 are available today.
MAINVIEW for IP pricing starts at $24,000. MAINVIEW for CICS
pricing starts at $33,000. Energizer for CICS pricing starts at
$26,500. About Enterprise Systems Management BMC Software's
