Dow Jones News
BBVA Compass of Birmingham, Ala., has hired former Merrill Lynch
broker James Notzon as a senior wealth adviser in Laredo, Texas, a
new position.
BBVA Compass created the slot with Notzon in mind, "based upon
his experience and understanding of the diverse financial needs of
South Texas' Wealth Management clients," according to a press
release.
Notzon, a native of Laredo, 46, has been in banking and wealth
management for 24 years. He was with Laredo National Bank from 1986
until 1992, and with Merrill from 1992 until last month.
Laredo National Bank is now part of BBVA Compass; Merrill is
part of Bank of America Corp. (BAC).
Bill Helms, head of BBVA Compass's Wealth Management division,
describes Notzon as "a true Laredoan" whose "passion for Laredo,
South Texas and Mexico is inseparable from his work."
Notzon is one of several recent personnel changes for BBVA
Compass Wealth Management over the past year in Laredo, a city
directly across the Rio Grande from Mexico. The bank made Roxanna
Ramos a regional manager, promoted Lizzy Trevino and Lalo Uribe to
positions as private bankers and brought in veteran private banker
Mary Garza from Guaranty Bank, a business it acquired last
summer.
BBVA Compass is a subsidiary of Compass Bancshares Inc. (CBSS),
which is in turn a subsidiary of Bilboa, Spain-based Banco Bilbao
Vizcaya Argentaria SA (BBVA, BBVA.MC). BBVA Compass has 724
branches in the U.S. South and Southwest and in California.
