Fisher Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: FSCI), a leader in local media
innovation, today announced that Colleen B. Brown, the Company's
President and Chief Executive Officer, is one of the six recipients
of Broadcasting & Cable's ("B&C") 2011 Technology
Leadership Award. The winners will be honored at an awards
reception that B&C is hosting on Monday, April 11th as part of
the National Association of Broadcasters' Convention in Las Vegas.
"We are thrilled to announce the 14th Annual Technology
Leadership Honorees for 2011," said Louis Hillelson, Vice
President/Group Publisher of Broadcasting & Cable. "These
awards pay tribute to technology leaders who have displayed
innovation, imagination and achievement. Colleen is one of the true
leaders in our industry and this award is in recognition of her
contributions in reshaping how broadcasters think about content
distribution in today's ever-changing environment, while leveraging
technology to establish cutting-edge delivery platforms that have
strengthened the relationship between local stations, their
audiences and advertising partners."
"I am honored to receive this prestigious award, which reflects
Fisher's commitment to combine the power of traditional broadcast
with technological innovation to redefine how we are serving our
communities in this increasingly fragmented environment," said Ms.
Brown. "Through our Broadcast to Broadband initiative, we have
successfully developed a series of innovative digital platforms to
better distribute real-time content to our audiences, promote
authentic engagement and connect advertisers with their
customers."
Under Ms. Brown's leadership, Fisher was one of the first
regional broadcasters to embrace the disruptive nature of
technology and establish new multi-platform solutions enabling its
stations to better serve the changing content needs of its viewers
and listeners. In addition to meeting the increased demand for more
personalized, on-the-go content, Fisher's digital solutions have
enabled the Company to diversify its revenue streams by more
effectively competing for a larger share of the local advertising
spend.
Fisher's suite of new media platforms includes:
- A robust network of 125 hyper-local neighborhood websites in
five markets that have attracted nearly 2,300 new advertisers to
the Company. Through its hyper-local websites, Fisher's stations
are providing more localized content and facilitating community
dialogue and engagement, as well as providing a cost-effective
advertising model for local businesses.
- Buzz Brands, a nationwide locally integrated multiplatform
content and advertising solution to help broadcasters enhance and
monetize their digital portfolios. The first lifestyle vertical
under Buzz Brands is Galtime.com, which is now available in 134
markets across the country, including CW Plus' 110 stations.
Ms. Brown is also active in several industry organizations that
are aggressively leveraging technology to expand the reach of
broadcasters, including serving as the President of the Mobile500
Alliance, an inclusive group of broadcast companies who are at the
forefront of the effort to bring Mobile Digital Television products
to consumers.
The other honorees are: Chris Cookson, President of Sony
Pictures Technologies; Michael Koetter, VP of News Technology
