Quest, a worldwide leader in technology management offering
professional, cloud, and managed service, selected SmartCast® Power
over Ethernet (PoE) LED lighting by Cree, Inc. (Nasdaq: CREE)
integrated with a Cisco network for its new High Availability
Business Center (HABC) in Roseville, California. SmartCast PoE is
an intuitively simple, scalable and open platform that helps enable
the Internet of Things (IoT) for buildings through better light.
The system embeds intelligence to make buildings more efficient and
people more productive, while delivering far better light for less
energy than ordinary LED lighting systems.
Cree® SmartCast PoE is part of the Cisco® Digital Ceiling
framework, which connects disparate systems into a single IP
network to create smart, more secure, seamlessly connected building
systems. Open in 2014, Quest’s HABC serves as a premier data
center, featuring 120,000 square feet of open floor space,
including a 24x7 network operations center, co-location, business
continuity/disaster recovery, and managed and cloud services
tailored for each client.
“We found Cree SmartCast® PoE to be the right lighting
technology to enhance our business services, as well as a showcase
of a potential IT-integrated solution for our clients,” said
Vladimir Pivtorak, Quest infrastructure services manager. “As a
Cisco integrator and Cisco Gold partner, we provide resilient,
secure, high-performance environments with leading-edge technology
for our clients operating out of our IT service delivery
centers.”
Cree’s SmartCast PoE LED lighting is integrated with a Cisco
standards-based PoE-powered network to create a Digital Ceiling
solution. The solution is deployed within the facility’s data
center, employee break room and training room. The installation
includes 100 Cree® CR Series 2’x2’ LED luminaires equipped with
SmartCast PoE, offering simplified flexibility with occupancy
sensing and color tuning for greater energy efficiency and
customized lighting environments.
“Cree’s SmartCast® PoE enables limitless possibilities and
applications through better LED technology,” said David Elien, Cree
senior vice president, lighting. “Installations of this nature will
help take Intelligent Light far beyond the limits of what’s
possible with traditional solutions.”
Cree’s SmartCast PoE also helps customers achieve aggressive
energy-saving goals while enabling additional intelligence
benefits, such as control, data collection and analytics. The
result is improved overall operations. Cree’s
SmartCast® Manager software maximizes the energy savings of
SmartCast PoE connected LED lighting with a OneButton™ Setup
that commissions an entire building with a solitary stroke. The
technology also facilitates a single point of control and
visibility into real-time data analytics to identify advanced
energy saving strategies.
“The Digital Ceiling deployment at the Quest HABC in Roseville
is a landmark project for California’s capital region,” said John
Baekelmans, CTO, vertical solutions, Cisco. “The opportunities for
the Digital Ceiling framework continue to expand in both private
and public sector enterprises further demonstrating that digitizing
buildings is becoming the new standard.”
Additionally, SmartCast PoE’s open platform with a
standards-based API creates the opportunity for more intelligent
features in the future, such as emergency wayfinding and energy
demand responsiveness.
Cree SmartCast PoE is commercially available, and additional
installs are underway.
