Bank of America continues its program to preserve culturally
important works of art, announcing a request for grant applications
from global art institutions. Applications for the 2016 Bank of
America Art Conservation Project are welcome from all nonprofit
cultural institutions with art requiring conservation. The deadline
for submissions is Friday, June 3, and applicants can learn how to
apply online at
http://museums.bankofamerica.com/arts/Conservation/Apply.
The Bank of America Art Conservation Project provides grants to
nonprofit museums to conserve historically or culturally
significant works of art, including objects that have been
designated as national treasures. Since 2010, Bank of America has
provided grants to museums in 28 countries supporting 85
conservation projects.
Last year, grants were awarded for the restoration of notable
works of art at 13 cultural institutions, including two paintings
by Vincent Van Gogh at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Mass.; the
Buddah Amitābha statue at the British Museum, London; 41 important
mural paintings at the Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso, Mexico
City; and eight sculptures by notable American Indian artists at
the Heard Museum in Phoenix, Ariz.
“We are pleased to continue this program as we believe in the
power of art to connect people across cultures and countries, which
is essential in a globally connected world,” said Rena De Sisto,
global arts and culture executive for Bank of America. “The Bank of
America Art Conservation Project is a key component of our
long-standing program of supporting the arts, which spans the globe
and includes sponsorship of approximately 10 exhibitions per year,
grants for both large and small institutions, and loans of full
exhibitions from our own collection to nonprofit museums around the
world.”
Past grant recipients in the U.S. have included: National
Portrait Gallery; Dallas Museum of Art; Detroit Institute of Arts;
Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Museum of Modern Art, New York;
Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum of Art;
