CHICAGO, Aug. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Through its annual
fundraiser and a separate corporate donation, Bankers Life has
increased its financial support to the Alzheimer's Association in
2014 to $436,000.
Bankers Life's annual Forget Me Not Days event raised just over
$336,000 for the Alzheimer's
Association, up slightly from what was collected last year. In
addition, Bankers Life– the national life and health insurer
focusing on the retirement market– recognized the Association on a
national level with a $100,000
donation to aid in the support of the Association's mission.
In its 12th record-breaking year, more than 1,000
Bankers Life agents, associates and Alzheimer's Association
volunteers took to the streets in May to collect donations from
passersby. Volunteers collected in more than 200 cities across the
country and over 200,000 packets of Forget-Me-Not flower seeds were
exchanged for donations.
"I am always awed by the number of volunteers who come out to
support our annual fundraising event and equally impressed by the
donations collected each year," said Scott
Goldberg, president of Bankers Life. "Forget Me Not Days
reminds us how far-reaching Alzheimer's disease is, and of its
painful and pervasive impact on families. Bankers Life is honored
to aid the Alzheimer's Association in its critical mission to
increase awareness and advance education, research and treatment
for this devastating disease."
"The longstanding commitment by Bankers Life and their
associates to the Alzheimer's Association is always inspiring and
sincerely appreciated," said Beth
Kallmyer, vice president, constituent services, Alzheimer's
Association. "With more than 5 million Americans living with
Alzheimer's and 15 million people providing care, support for the
cause is more critical than ever. The effort made by Bankers Life
volunteers to blanket street corners to raise awareness and collect
funds for critical Alzheimer's Association care, support and
research programs is so valuable and will contribute to changing
the course of this devastating Alzheimer's disease."
Since the fundraiser's start in 2003, Bankers Life has provided
the Association with over $3.7
million for care, education and research programs.
