Newport Coachworks is entering the
government fleet market and has secured major attention for its CNG
and electric shuttle buses
Green Automotive Company (OTCQB: GACR) announces that its
Californian based subsidiary Newport Coachworks has generated
significant interest for its CNG (Compressed natural gas) and
electric shuttle buses at the GFX Expo, the Government Fleet Expo
which took place in San Diego early June. The company, which was
focusing at the show on low and zero emission transport solutions,
presented, for the first time, its range to this market segment.
Its recently launched electric shuttle bus, the e-Patriot, has
attracted major attention from local municipalities.
Following the Show, Newport Coachworks is in negotiation with
several local authorities and is close to concluding contracts to
supply CNG and fully electric buses to this specific new market
segment. Carter Read, President of Newport Coachworks, confirms:
“Right now we are working on several major contracts; for example
we are working on a quote for San Jaoquin Sheriffs department who
have made an enquiry for prisoner buses. Moreover we are working on
an electric drive train solution for use in Antarctica, which needs
to perform in the coldest of climates.”
Ian Hobday, CEO of Green Automotive, is pleased about the
development of the company’s shuttle bus business: “We wanted to
open the doors to a whole new market for our product range, and the
Government / Municipality fleet sector certainly fits the bill. We
were able through the GFX show to access a whole new audience and
have already captured several solid leads. We have seen that being
able to tailor our products to the unique specifications required
for these government contracts can prove to be very beneficial to
our business. We can confirm that the market for low and zero
emission vehicles is definitely taking off and Newport Coachworks
is in a great position to cater for this market successfully.”
As the government sector is moving towards low and zero emission
transport solutions, local authorities are looking for vehicles
that allow them to reduce carbon emissions and at the same time to
work in a more cost efficient way. CNG and electric buses generate
substantial savings in fuel costs (electricity is on average 80%
less than the cost of diesel per mile travelled, and CNG bought in
bulk can cost up to 50% less than diesel), and thus can reduce
significantly the TCO (total cost of ownership) of vehicles. In
addition electric and CNG buses benefit from a number of federal
and state-based financial incentives. Several US states provide
considerable funding for projects that reduce air pollution from
on- and off-road vehicles, as well as tax incentives and have put
in place laws and regulations to encourage the deployment of
EVs.
