Toyota is rumored to be very good at marketing their plans and products in the industry. Some longer time followers are annoyed with the continual barrage of fluff pieces that generally contain no usable information.

However, there were a couple of news pieces these last few days which also seem to be fluff pieces, giving no information/details about their product or general timelines.

So MSN did publish a video yesterday for those who are unfamiliar with todays industry battery development. This vid did give time to QS at about six minute mark.

So while Zulualโ€™s claim of what is responsible for QSโ€™s short-lived stock movement, I can only say the QS stock tracked the rest of the marketplace in both of the rise and falls of movements. That is, no impact seemed to come from this information posting.

Note that the title of the video is not very well represented with respect to the content they released. So Yea, it was kind of slimy to title the video the way they did:

The below notes are from silicon investor and post date, and even update, the 2017 information you posted. So as of 2021 Toyota looks to be going at it on their own with in-house development.
https://www.siliconinvestor.com/readmsg.aspx?msgid=33508493

Other notes from the article:

1) VW initially invested 100 million in QS bringing their total investment to $300M.
2) Bill Gates also invested in QS.
3) BMW & Ford announced they were investing 130 million in Solid Power
4) Toyota going at it on their own.

Notes not belonging to above article:
a) PowerCo subsidiary of VW motor group working with QS
b) QS Cash runway extends into 2028

Toyota does not own any of QS patents: see search results below

"Toyota is one of the top companies that cite QuantumScape's patents, along with Samsung and Ford. This indicates that Toyota is working on similar technologies and is following QuantumScape's technology.

No, Toyota does not own any of QuantumScape's patents, but Toyota is one of the top citing companies of QuantumScape's patents:"

QuantumScape Releases Next-Generation Solid-State Battery Separator Equipment, Cobra
December 5, 2024

Achieving this final key goal of 2024 enables the companyโ€™s higher-volume sample production in 2025SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- QuantumScape Corporation (NYSE: QS), a leader in solid-state lithium-metal battery technology, today announced that next-generation heat treatment equipment for its separator production process, Cobra, has been developed, delivered, installed and released for initial separator processing. Achieving this milestone on schedule puts the company on track to deliver higher-volume samples of its first planned commercial product, QSE-5, in 2025, and is a major step toward the commercialization of solid-state batteries for electric vehicles.Cobra represents a significant innovation in ceramic solid-state separator production, benefiting both scalability and cost efficiency. This milestone is the culmination of years of advanced R&D on QuantumScapeโ€™s fast separator production process โ€“ the core innovation that will allow its battery technology to be manufactured at gigawatt-hour scale. The company is targeting Cobra integration into its cell production baseline in 2025.โ€œCobra is a true breakthrough in ceramics manufacturing, and it will pave the way for the scale up of our battery technology,โ€ said Tim Holme, co-founder and CTO of QuantumScape. โ€œIโ€™m delighted with how the team has overcome challenges and kept the process roll-out on track this year.โ€โ€œWe set challenging and ambitious goals at the beginning of the year, and it required a focused team effort to achieve all of them,โ€ said Dr. Siva Sivaram, CEO and president of QuantumScape. โ€œThere is a lot of work ahead of us, and with our track record of consistent execution and delivery on our milestones, I fully expect the team to continue building momentum toward gigawatt-hour scale up of our technology.โ€The company established four annual goals at the beginning of 2024, all focused on integrating the improvements demonstrated at the component level in 2023 into the QSE-5. With the achievement of this milestone, the company has now fulfilled all four of its key annual objectives for 2024.Prepare for Cobra production in 2025 . With todayโ€™s announcement, QuantumScape has taken delivery, installed and released for initial separator processing key equipment for its advanced separator manufacturing process, Cobra.Begin low-volume QSE-5 prototype production . In October, QuantumScape announced it had started producing and shipping the first low-volume B samples battery cells for automotive customer testing. The QSE-5 B sample features energy density of 844 Wh/L and is able to fast charge from 10% to 80% in 12.2 minutes.Ramp Raptor process . Raptor, the first stage of QuantumScapeโ€™s fast separator production process, entered the companyโ€™s baseline process in the third quarter of 2024. These films are used in the low-volume QSE-5 B samples.Ship Alpha-2 samples . Earlier in the year, the company announced it started shipping Alpha-2 samples to customers. These cells were precursors to the B samples.About QuantumScape CorporationQuantumScape is on a mission to revolutionize energy storage to enable a sustainable future. i remember Toyota invested about 20M to QS in 2017, if I remembered correctly.
So Toyota should have reviewed all QS's technical designs and all its patents QS got.
Can Toyota develop its own SSB once reviewed QS technology, or they just cooperate each other, let's wait and see.

QuantumScapeโ€™s QSE-5 solid-state battery has a weight energy density of approximately 301 Wh/kg, and a volumetric energy density of 844 Wh/L.

Factorialsโ€™ competitive battery named Solstice is said to have a weight density of 450 Wh/kg however they provide no other details, including milestones to production other than the fact they have been feeding Mercedes Benz sample batteries for testing. (Same way as QS does for Volkswagen)

Chinese CATL/Huawei claim a SS battery small scale production timeline โ€œby 2027โ€ for reported energy density of 500 Wh/kg.

Note: Todays Li formulation batteries are on the order of 350 Wh/kg

So it seems QS is behind in the density development curve of their competitors. At the same time this density appears to be slightly less than a standard Li battery.

QS is at least is activity marketing themselves as being closest to actual EV deployment.

Caveat- the accuracy of this information is dependent on both the article link that was just posted in combination with CGPT quieres to harvest the other competitors details. Ive caught CGPT of giving inaccurate information in the past so if you know for sure any of these details are incorrect please feel free to post corrections and provide a link if possible.

Ownership: the latest I could find was from a site that did not state their source:

Quantumscape (NYSE: QS) is owned by 25.43% institutional shareholders, 41.06% Quantumscape insiders, and 33.51% retail investors. Volkswagen Group Of America Investments LLC is the largest individual Quantumscape shareholder, owning 68.24M shares representing 13.32% of the company.

The site was WallStreetZen - they don't say where they got their information. Other sites will quote the last Quarterly and say VW owns 17%.

A couple of notes regarding the future:

1) All 3 majors in the US, (Stellantis - GM/GMC - Ford/Lincoln) - have already spent billions in development and retooling of factories, that are only recoverable if they sell EVs or EV/Gas Hybrids. Q3 of 2024 saw EV ownership at 8.9% of the market. This percentage has been on a steady upward trend.

2) Mercedes, BMW, Audi (VW group) and Stellantis (owners of Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram) have all made commitments and allocated the funding for a transition. At this point it would appear we'll see a lot of hybrids first followed by all-electric cars.

3) Toyota has announced that every model they make will have a hybrid option (small gas engine with a battery. No later than 2025.

4) Ram just recently announced they will have their first hybrid truck (1500 REV) which will have a 6 cylinder gas engine acting as a generator to keep the battery charged. They said the range will be at least 500 miles.

The point is that all of these companies are already in the process of retooling manufacturing lines and will probably NOT throw out that investment so that they can retool for gas engines. Add to that, expect Elon to bend Trumps ear on this issue.

The two big reasons most often expressed, as to why Americans don't want to buy an EV are the following: 1) lack of charging stations (think gas stations for EVs) and 2) Range anxiety.

Several recent events might change that. A) Private companies have announced, this year, several hundreds of millions in private investments to build out the infrastructure (just in the US), B) the current administration announced (last January) $623mil in grants to build out the US charging charging infrastructure. C) Ford announced this year their BlueOval SK (Korean company) Battery Park in Kentucky. At 3.9 million sq/ft it will be the largest battery facility in the world. Construction has already begun.

I assume everyone already knows the benefits of Solid State batteries, one of which will address the range issue. I expect to see them in the 2027 model year. I know everyone, including QS seems to think it will be earlier but I prefer to lower my expectations and then hope I am wrong.

I think the "new" administration will be big on talk (like when they promised to replace the existing healthcare system with a new improved one) Trump then had to admit that "no one knew how difficult it would be to replace the current system." And subsequently did nothing.

He might be able to slow it down but he has two people on his team, Elon and RFK Jf who believe in Global Warming. He'll find a way to say he forced everyone to build Hybrids and then move onto some other social issue. IMO

1st assumption an investor should make:

1) VW is huge, so like any investor with cash - never gamble on one horse.
NOTE: VW executives have stated via video links (you'll have to look them up) that they are positive about the relationship and have a plant where QS batteries can be produced.. What we need to note is this: IF VW is wrong they'll adjust the plant for other purposes. Meaning that they have the capital to make mistakes.

2) do a search on who VW is partnering on with EV production. They are not placing all of their bets on just one horse. Try NorthVolt, Ecobat, etc - But my impression is that their focus is on QS and when we see that happen - this horse will run

After you have asked that question, I found some links on QS website to their Executives talking positively about QS. (why wouldn't they? You don't bash someone you hope will succeed!)

I'm waiting until I see something a little more definite from VW - I'm hopeful on this one - I'm not negative but I'd rather buy this at $6 knowing they have a firm deal for a defined $ amount and then I can determine what that is worth.

GL - I'll be here...I've been following them for awhile - I want them to succeed!!

I've been watching this one for 2 years now - one thing that might be of some concern is selling by Insiders. Take Jadgeep Singh sales for the last 90 days:
Date ------ - # sold ------ proceeds
08/19/2024 94,445 - $ 545,542.65
08/20/2024 - 47,076 - $ 269,467.73
09/17/2024 - 192,270 - $1,150,908.99
09/17/2024 - 57,690 - $ 345,326.57
10/07/2024 - 192,270 - $1,063,753.00
11/13/2024 - 70 912 - $ 357,899.96
11/14/2024 - 5,531 - $ 27,702.01

This doesn't necessarily mean one shouldn't buy it on the dips and it's certainly getting to a place, under $5, where it's been safe to buy.

Barchart is showing that there are 10 analyst who follow the company and here's the breakdown on how theiy currently view QS:

1 - strong buy
6 - hold
1 - moderate sell
2 - strong sell

https://www.barchart.com/stocks/quotes/QS/analyst-ratings

I'm waiting to see more progress towards production / sales - they have come a long way over the last couple of years. GL!

Estimated enough cash to last until 2028. Hopefully will have sales/revenue by then. Shipping test batteries and about 17% ownership by VW sub. HAWK

$QS faces a long and uncertain road to commercialization. QS is unlikely to generate meaningful revenues in the next couple of years, and its stock may face further volatility as it navigates the complexities of bringing its technology to market.

QuantumScape's stock is down about 95% from its all-time high. The company still hasn't commercialized any of its batteries yet. Its stock still looks outrageously overvalued relative to its long-term growth potential.

$QS Continues to hemmorage cash and running out. Competition has much better products. QuantumScape Corp (NYSE:QS) faces challenges in improving cell reliability, yield, and equipment productivity during the B-sample phase.

The company reported a GAAP net loss of $119.7 million for Q3, with adjusted EBITDA loss at $71.6 million, indicating ongoing financial challenges.

Higher legal fees and settlement accruals have pushed the adjusted EBITDA loss guidance to the higher end of the original range for 2024.

The transition from Raptor to Cobra process for higher volume production is ongoing, with full implementation expected in 2025, indicating potential delays in scaling up production.

The collaboration with PowerCo requires careful management to ensure successful industrialization and scaling, which could pose risks if not executed effectively.

A great update from the company. Strategic development targets met now all focus is on working with PowerCo to get the production environment built and working. Wish I had added earlier this week but market pressure kept me from doing so. Hopefully seen the last of the $5 prices

07/11/2024 Press Release
PowerCo and QuantumScape Announce Landmark Agreement to Industrialize Solid-State Batteries

San Jose, United States / Salzgitter, Germany. Volkswagen Groupโ€™s battery company PowerCo and QuantumScape (NYSE: QS) today announced they have entered into a groundbreaking agreement to industrialize QuantumScapeโ€™s next-generation solid-state lithium-metal battery technology. Upon satisfactory technical progress and certain royalty payments, QuantumScape will grant PowerCo the license to mass produce battery cells based on QuantumScapeโ€™s technology platform.

Under the non-exclusive license, PowerCo can manufacture up to 40 gigawatt-hours (GWh) per year using QuantumScapeโ€™s technology with the option to expand up to 80 GWh, enough to outfit approximately one million vehicles per year. The companies believe this high-touch engagement represents the fastest way to achieve gigawatt-hour-scale production of solid-state technology to meet the growing global demand for better electric vehicle batteries. The agreement supersedes an earlier joint venture between the Volkswagen Group and QuantumScape to co-manufacture batteries.

QS insiders starting from CEO ARE all a royal stealing machine. they don't trust their own company. look how much money they took and taking every month of the table that was placed on the table by shareholders

QS went public as a SPAC and the SEC rules on a SPAC are that they have to open at $10.

I think they are getting closer to having a value, but patience is necessary.
