Example you buy NVDA at $15, 3 years ago at $15. 1,000 shares at $15 is $15,000.  3 years later it is $150 Sell 100 shares that is $15k.   You are still long with 900 shares, even it it drops to $350 bucks you still are up $315k with no risk.
