Join Sycuan Casino and legendary basketball pro Bill Walton on Saturday, March 17th 2-6pm as he commentates live for the March Madness telecast at Sycuan Casino’s GameDay Sports Bar & Grill. The two day kick-off event will benefit the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF), a world leader in helping individuals with physical challenges get involved – and stay involved – in sports. In addition to catching the games and hearing play reviews from a pro, the event will feature a special check presentation of $50,000 from Sycuan’s Chairman Daniel Tucker to further support CAF’s mission. CAF spokesperson and challenged athlete Scout Bassett will be accepting the check on behalf of the foundation. After losing her leg in a liquid fire and left as an orphan in Nanjing, China, Scout was able to overcome the odds with CAF’s help, and is now a Paratriathlon World Champion.

“We are excited to partner with the Challenged Athletes Foundation as the benefiting charity of the GameDay Sports Bar & Grill” said Tucker. “As an organization that brings people together in celebration of athletic abilities, we couldn’t imagine a better foundation to support.” This donation will allow CAF to provide grants for advanced adaptive sports equipment, specialized training, mentorship and sports opportunities to challenged athletes throughout the world. Sycuan will further support challenged athletes by donating 5% of GameDay Sports Bar’s annual sales to CAF. “Over the years I have had the honor and privilege of meeting many inspirational athletes, like the remarkable Scout Bassett. I am a Challenged Athlete; and I am the luckiest guy on earth. I am a daily witness to how many lives are changed and saved by CAF,” said Bill Walton. “I am proud and fortunate to continue spreading the word about this incredible organization.” Walton will make regular appearances at GameDay throughout the year.

Challenged Athletes Foundation

The Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) is a world leader in helping individuals with physical challenges get involved – and stay involved – in sports. CAF believes that participation in sports at any level increases self-esteem, encourages independence and enhances quality of life. Since 1994, more than $30 million has been raised and almost 6,000 funding requests from challenged athletes in all 50 states and dozens of countries have been satisfied. Additionally, CAF’s outreach efforts help another 60,000 individuals each year. Whether it’s a $2,500 grant for a handcycle, helping underwrite a carbon fiber running foot not covered by insurance, or arranging encouragement from a mentor who has triumphed a similar challenge, CAF’s mission is clear: give those with the desire to live active, athletic lifestyles every opportunity to compete in the sports they love.
