Valero Energy Corp. reported above-normal gas emissions Wednesday at its McKee refinery in the Texas panhandle.

"The Valero McKee Refinery experienced a reportable emissions event due to flaring from units located in Complexes 1 and 2," the refinery said in a statement to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. "Refinery personnel followed safe shutdown procedures to reduce and minimize emissions."

It said the emissions of carbon monoxide and other gases began Tuesday afternoon and ended Wednesday morning, lasting about 12 hours.

The nearly 200,000-barrel-a-day McKee refinery is located in Sunray, 65 miles north of Amarillo.
