Valero Energy Corp. (VLO) reported a leak at its Three Rivers refinery in south Texas that led to the emission of thousands of pounds of flammable gas Tuesday and Wednesday.

"A leak was detected at the East Plant Cooling Tower," the refinery said in a statement to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. "Emission estimates based on preliminary analysis of suspected heat exchanger. The heat exchanger is being isolated."

It estimated emissions of about 5,500 pounds of isobutane that it said began Tuesday afternoon and lasted through Wednesday afternoon.

The 90,000-barrel-a-day Three Rivers refinery is located halfway between Corpus Christi and San Antonio, in the heart of the Eagle Ford Shale production region.
