ALT Software has been selected by SBS Technologies(R) to provide COTS OpenGL drivers to their customers for the SBS G2 PMC graphics processor family. ALT's drivers provide high performance 3D/2D display capabilities in military and commercial aircraft cockpits, industrial controls, telematics and infotainment systems, and other human machine interface devices. The SBS G2 PMC graphics display controller family utilizes the powerful 3D graphics processing power of ATI Technologies' popular Mobility Radeon 9000 ('M9') chip used in today's high-end notebook computers, on a PMC module. The result is embedded devices that boast performance near that of high-end desktop workstations. The PMC module offers advanced 3D/2D graphics and functionality such as video capture, independent dual monitor support, and 'video to SBC' capability. ALT provides advanced software products for cockpit and helmet-mounted displays, moving map systems and other avionics devices with advanced performance requirements. The ALT drivers allow SBS customers to enable their hardware to support content rich 3D and 2D graphics and also provide an upgrade path for avionics clients from general purpose to DO-178B Level A certifiable drivers as their needs change. A key deciding factor for SBS in selecting ALT's drivers was their ease of deployment on different system configurations. ALT Software driver kits accommodate a variety of operating systems, bus architectures, graphics ASICs, and processor combinations. OS and processors supported for use with the G2 PMC module include VxWorks(R), INTEGRITY(R), Windows(R) XP, and Linux(R) on Intel(R) and PowerPC(R) processors. For customers with an unsupported requirement, such as a proprietary RTOS or a different processor, the driver's modular architecture allows ALT to modify the applicable module as required, as opposed to creating an entirely new driver. This translates into shorter development time and lower driver development costs for SBS customers. "ALT Software is an industry leader in OpenGL driver technology. When we considered the alternatives to providing quality drivers for the G2 family for a wide range of operating systems and with a strong path to DO-178, SBS chose to support our customers with ALT's tried and proven OpenGL products and professional services," said Frank Willis, V.P. of Business Development, SBS Technologies' Government Group. "ALT Software has been developing drivers for both the embedded and desktop markets for over 10 years. It is exciting to be bringing this level of 3D and 2D desktop graphics performance to SBS' G2 family of PMC modules," said Chris Brady, president of ALT Software.
