Patent Describes “System and Method for
Acquiring Network Data from Mobile Devices”
PCTEL, Inc. (NASDAQ:PCTI), a leader in simplifying wireless and
site solutions for private and public networks, announced today
that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office had granted PCTEL’s
patent application titled “System and Method for Acquiring Network
Data from Mobile Devices.” The patent application, which was
submitted in 2011 and issued on February 18, 2014, describes an
invention for crowd-based acquisition of wireless network data from
mobile user devices and its storage and analysis in a cloud-based
processor and data repository. The emergence of smart phones and
cloud-based hosting motivated the timely invention of this approach
to the increasingly specialized testing and measurement of cellular
networks. The patent (8,655,348) was developed by PCTEL’s Corporate
and RF Solutions engineering team.
At this year’s Mobile World Congress, new test and measurement
companies exhibited products that will rely upon mobile user
elements (e.g., phones, tablets, and “wearables”) to dynamically
collect network data. PCTEL’s patent contemplates all of those
applications as well as the transmission, digestion, and analysis
of the acquired data.
“PCTEL continues to develop leading-edge technology that
carriers and cellular engineers will apply to the optimization and
benchmarking of wireless networks,” stated Marty Singer, PCTEL’s
Chairman and CEO. “Our latest patent, along with the introduction
of our new SeeGull® IBflex™ and SeeWave™ products, demonstrates our
commitment to keeping pace with the requirements of the industry
and our customers. We hope to encourage others to license the
technology described by this patent,” added Singer.
About PCTEL
PCTEL, Inc. (NASDAQ: PCTI), develops antenna, scanning receiver,
and engineered site solutions and services for public and private
networks. PCTEL RF Solutions specializes in the design,
optimization, and testing of today's wireless communication
networks. The company's SeeGull® scanning receivers and SeeHawk®
visualization tool measure and analyze wireless signals for
efficient cellular network planning, deployment, and optimization.
PCTEL recently unveiled SeeWave™, an interference detection and
location system, at Mobile World Congress. The Company also
released the SeeGull IBflex™ scanning receiver, which increases the
ease and efficiency of in-building wireless network testing. The
IBflex scans all major cellular technologies, bands and WiFi in a
single walk test. The flexible design and its unique "hot swap
battery system" reduces total testing time and unwanted
interruptions. PCTEL develops and supports scanning receivers for
LTE FDD, TD-LTE, EV-DO, CDMA, WCDMA, TD-SCDMA, GSM, WiMAX, and WiFi
networks.
PCTEL Connected Solutions™ simplifies network deployment for
wireless, data and communications applications for private network,
public safety, and government customers. PCTEL Connected Solutions
develops and delivers high-value YAGI, Land Mobile Radio, WiFi,
GPS, In-Tunnel, Subway, and broadband antennas (parabolic and flat
panel) through its MAXRAD®, Bluewave™, and Wi-Sys™ product lines.
PCTEL also designs specialized towers, enclosures, fiber optic
panels, and fiber jumper cables to deliver custom engineered site
solutions. The company's vertical markets include SCADA, Health
Care, Smart Grid, Positive Train Control, Precision Agriculture,
