Procera® Networks Inc. (NYSE Amex: PKT), a developer of Evolved Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) solutions providing traffic awareness, control and protection for complex networks, today released version 12.4 of its PacketLogic™ software. This new version significantly enhances visibility for network operators by providing improved granularity of PacketLogic's traffic classifications through Virtual Services, extending traffic analysis capabilities, and simplifying distribution of reports. PacketLogic Intelligence Center (PIC) has been equipped with a report engine that enables the administrator to correlate statistical data from multiple data sources into comprehensive reports. It even allows for polling external data sources, like operations (OSS) and billing systems (BSS), using standard SQL queries. Unlike many other systems, users can create their own custom reports without the involvement of their vendor, making critical business intelligence instantly available to support timely business decisions based on reliable information. Broadband providers are being asked by regulators to detail how they are performing in meeting their service commitments to subscribers, and to justify their congestion management strategy through transparency. These new reports, introduced by Procera, are the first in the industry to combine network, subscriber, device, application, and location information into a single system to provide comprehensive congestion reporting. Some examples of powerful new reports that can be created are:
  • Congestion reports per site based on Quality of Experience (QoE) metrics, traffic dropped, or delay introduced by traffic shaping and/or prioritization, and minutes of congestion for network links
  • Number of users affected by Congestion Management -- and to what extent their applications are being affected
  • Dynamic consumption reports for subscribers, service plans, locations, applications, and devices
  • Popularity and network impact of specific handsets and devices (like iPad) on broadband bandwidth usage
  • Number of users relative to amount of bandwidth consumed by emerging killer apps

The new PacketLogic Release 12.4 allows for scheduled distribution of these reports to stakeholders. This enables the CEO to have the report of 'protocol and device distribution' at his fingertips when opening the inbox on Monday morning, and the daily 'congested sites report' to be conveniently available to the director of capacity planning.

"Almost every role in an operator business requires intelligence about data traffic patterns and end-user behavior," said Jon Lindén, vice president of global marketing at Procera. "Intelligence must be available in a timely, convenient, intuitive and reliable fashion to enable qualified decisions. We are continually innovating our solutions to ensure that critical information is available to operators in real time. We are also working to ensure that our solutions scale to meet their needs today and in the future."

Procera also adds further granularity to PacketLogic in Release 12.4 by introducing Virtual Services, which are designated site-based signatures for commonly requested applications like YouTube, Facebook, or Hulu. Traffic to these sites will be accounted for in the Virtual Service signature, as well as the original application signature, e.g. Streaming Video for YouTube. This allows, for example, an operator to assess the adoption of over the top video in general, and for a popular new video service in particular.

The PacketLogic 12.4 software is available now.
