United Airlines is buying 29 new aircraft and expects to take
delivery of them in the next couple of years, it announced
Monday.
The unit of United Continental Holdings Inc. (UAL) said it is
buying 25 Embraer E-175 aircraft, which it expects to take delivery
of next year. It is also purchasing four Boeing 787-9 aircraft,
which it expects to take delivery of in 2020.
The company said that the Embraer aircraft will let the airline
"offer a more comfortable and efficient aircraft to its
customers."
The purchase of the Boeing 787 aircraft is "part of United's
widebody fleet replacement strategy," the company said. United said
the aircraft is 20% more fuel-efficient and "the longest-range
version of the aircraft."
"It will offer the airline's all-new United Polaris business
class seats and other modern amenities," United said.
Boeing Co. (BA) said the sale was a repeat order that was
finalized this year and valued at about $1.1 billion per current
list prices.
