Volkswagen AG's (VOW.XE) namesake brand said Friday it plans to introduce at least 12 new sports-utility vehicle models to the Chinese market by 2020.

"Over the next three years, at least 10 more SUVs are to be launched for the Chinese market, including four this year," the car maker said.

A worldwide boom in demand for SUVs is especially strong in China, Volkswagen said.
