CORONA, Calif., Dec. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- AVT, Inc. (OTC
Markets: AVTC) (www.autoretail.com), a manufacturer of automated
retailing systems and technology-infused smart vending machines,
has a portfolio of products that meet the new FDA requirements,
according to company statements and an article in Digital Signage
Connection.
The new rule requires operators who own or operate 20 or more
vending machines to disclose calorie information for food sold from
those machines. Owners of vending machines must post information
for each item inside the machines - either on nearby placards, on
posters, or on digital displays.
AVT "has a deep portfolio of products and solutions that already
meet the new calorie-disclosure rules for food and beverages
established by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA),"
Digital Signage Connection reported.
The company "has developed proprietary software and a series of
unique touchscreen interfaces that provide consumers with complete
nutritional information, as well as the options to play games, read
news, receive coupons and special offers, and enjoy free Wi-Fi,"
the publication stated.
According to the FDA, the regulation will affect 10,800
operators that control between 4 and 5.6 million machines. Each
company will pay an estimated $2,400
to comply.
AVT management believes that the new rule will be good for the
vending industry and good for consumers. "There are only a handful
of vending manufacturers like AVT that can upgrade older style
machines to bring them into compliance, and offer a range of
digitally-smart systems that already meet the new rules," according
to James Winsor, CEO of AVT, Inc.
"And for consumers, the FDA rules will ensure that they are
able to make informed purchasing decisions, which will spark more
frequent visits to vending machines," he added. "Most importantly,
our patent on the wireless communications between multiple vending
machines and system operators should play a major role as the
next-generation units are deployed into the market."
Over the next few years, the digital signage market will see a
steady increase in revenue ranging from 4.7 to 5.6 percent. By
2017, the total digital signage market will reach $17.1 billion, according to research compiled by
IHS.
