In recognizing the importance of youth development, First Clover Leaf Bank recently gave a $1,000 charitable gift that it received from Computer Services, Inc. (CSI) to the Lewis & Clark Council of the Boy Scouts of America. The Edwardsville, Ill.-based bank selected the Lewis & Clark Council for its commitment to helping youth build character, learn skills and practice leadership.

“First Clover Leaf is a community bank, and we understand the importance of actively supporting the people we serve,” said Bill Barlow, the bank’s executive vice president. “We gratefully directed CSI's charitable contribution to the Lewis & Clark Council of the Boy Scouts of America, because it serves more than 22,000 youth throughout 15 counties in Southwestern Illinois with the help of more than 3,000 volunteers. We are proud to help sponsor an organization that trains and prepares the leaders of tomorrow.”

First Clover Leaf, a CSI core bank processing customer, received the charitable contribution through a CSI customer appreciation event. Rather than give away an individual-focused prize to bankers attending the event, CSI held a drawing that allowed one customer bank to receive a monetary contribution to the charity of its choice. This is CSI’s second year to offer a corporate donation through the event, and participants have found the approach to customer rewards meaningful in supporting their local communities.

“Like CSI, our customers have a dedicated focus on being responsible corporate citizens within the communities where they work and live,” said Steve Powless, CSI’s chief executive officer. “Our customers have overwhelmingly embraced the idea of receiving a community-focused gift, and their enthusiasm speaks to the service-minded culture shared by both their organizations and ours. We are delighted that First Clover Leaf, an active community member, received the contribution and directed it to such an outstanding organization as the Lewis & Clark Council.”

Through its efforts, First Clover Leaf strives to be a partner to groups in its area by supporting those organizations that effect positive change for its customers, employees and neighbors. The bank sponsors its own Green Team, a group of employees and their family members who volunteer for worthwhile projects, fundraisers, charitable causes and community events throughout the year. A strictly voluntary group, Green Team sponsors an average of 25 events per year, ranging from food drives for local food pantries to organizing teams to participate in Relay for Life.

“We stand proudly behind the idea that responsible corporate citizenry has a long-lasting, positive effect on our neighbors,” said Chad Abernathy, the bank’s senior vice president. “Being involved makes our community a stronger, more vibrant place to be and we are grateful for CSI’s contribution to help support our mission of driving meaningful change in the places we live.”
