It is tennis time in Connecticut and Aetna (NYSE: AET) urges families to join in the fun, the energy and the excitement of professional women’s tennis at the New Haven Open at Yale presented by First Niagara, running August 18-27 at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale. The tournament, which will once again showcase the best women’s players in the world including three-time defending champion and World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki, has been reenergized this year with new sponsors and activities. Aetna is supporting this key community event with a major three-year commitment to serve as one of the tournament’s five Cornerstone Partners.

“As a Cornerstone Partner, we are particularly excited to focus our support on activities that will engage the whole family in the excitement of the tournament and the health and vitality that come with physical activity such as tennis,” said Floyd W. Green, Aetna vice president, Community Relations and Urban Marketing. “We invite families to the Aetna Kids Day presented by ESPN and all throughout the tournament we encourage children and adults to visit the Aetna FitZone. Both are great opportunities to blend fun and fitness and enjoy the fast-paced, exciting game of tennis. We hope the events, including tennis clinics for all ages, will please lifelong tennis fans as well as engage newcomers of all ages and walks of life in the fun of the sport.”

Aetna Kids Day presented by ESPN will be held on Sunday, August 21 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. It promises to be a fun-filled day of music, court games, giveaways, a free tennis clinic for children, autograph sessions and appearances by the WTA stars. Tickets start at just $8, which includes entrance to the day’s tennis matches, and the first 1,000 children will receive a cool sling bag from Aetna filled with neat gifts from tournament sponsors. More details are available here.

Throughout the tournament, the Aetna FitZone will feature health and fitness activities for children and adults. Fans can enjoy a new daily Aetna Fitness Clinic from 1:00-4:00 p.m., which offers tennis instruction, cardio tennis and Zumba. The Aetna FitZone also will feature week-long 10 and under tennis activities, a Fast Serve contest, games, face painting, a bungee run, an activity center and prizes. Aetna’s own Fitness Center and Wellness Center staff will lead some of the FitZone activities and over 60 employees and their families will volunteer in the FitZone during the tournament.

Additionally, Aetna is supporting the tournament by funding a unique advertising campaign to raise awareness and encourage spectators to come join in the fun, while highlighting family health, and community engagement. Advertisements are appearing now on buses, Metro North trains, billboards and other signs

“We are delighted with how Aetna is activating its New Haven Open sponsorship,” said Tournament Director Anne Worcester. “Between their very impactful advertising campaign, sponsorship of Aetna Kids Day, and the activities that will be held in the Aetna FitZone throughout the event, they are engaging our fans in active, healthy and fun ways. We look forward to this being the beginning of a long-lasting relationship.”
