First U.S.-Built Focusing Magnet for LHC Upgrade Arrives at CERN
December 19, 2023
By Sarah Charley
Upgrading the collision rate is no easy feat. Scientists needed to create magnets that are strong enough to focus and squeeze the proton beams of the LHC into much tighter bunches as they collide head on. So how are they doing it?

The answer is a rarely used and fussy superconducting material called niobium-3-tin, or Nb3Sn. When cooled with liquid helium to minus 271.25 degrees Celsius, Nb3Sn is an excellent superconductor and transports electricity without resistance. It is a type of superconductor that can reach higher magnetic fields than the standard niobium-titanium currently used in LHC superconducting magnets. The new magnets produce a maximum magnetic field of 12 tesla, roughly 50% more than the strength of the niobium-titanium focusing magnets currently in the Large Hadron Collider.

You're welcome. You're gonna need a bigger car for all the scientists...and more niobium!

Mr. Grunt, In 50 years every home and automobile will have one.
(or a Hadron Collider)

The main attraction is the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility. It accelerates electrons to high energies using superconducting radio-frequency technology. The electron beam runs continuously. This allows for a high rate of data collection and high precision in experiments.

I am not sure today's upward movement in the share price has much, if anything, to do with short covering Wagner. More likely due to the announcement out of China and the fact that NB shares were way oversold. And, the number of NB shares sold short/in short position decreased dramatically by well over 50% in November based on the latest figures just out.

+17% on well over twice trailing avg. daily volume. NB shares have been very undervalued and were likely hit by some early tax loss selling. But a 17% gain is not that significant when the shares are selling at these depressed levels. Can't get at all excited about $1.56. Long way to go to get back to a decent valuation.
Gap, gee what else is new.

NASA and Jefferson Lab fuel inventions and the regional economy, leaders say

https://www.pilotonline.com/2024/12/03/nasa-and-jefferson-lab-fuel-inventions-and-the-regional-economy-leaders-say/
Jefferson Lab in Newport News has made several scientific advances, particularly in particle physics and quantum mechanics, said Cynthia Keppel, associate director of experimental nuclear physics.

“We are exploring the nature of matter,” she said.

The facility, internationally known among the science community, has about 2,000 scientists exploring the nature of matter. There are 1,200 American scientists with the rest coming from all over the world.

The main attraction is the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility. It accelerates electrons to high energies using superconducting radio-frequency technology. The electron beam runs continuously. This allows for a high rate of data collection and high precision in experiments.

Shaped like a racetrack, the accelerator has two linear accelerators connected by arcs. Electrons circulate multiple times through these linear sections, gaining energy each time they pass. Then, they are sent to four experimental halls where different experiments can run simultaneously, she said.

“This is research that can’t be done anywhere else,” Keppel said.

There are 750 employees who are physicists, engineers, technicians and support staff. The lab also supports hundreds of additional jobs indirectly through local contracts and partnerships, particularly in Hampton Roads. Funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, Jefferson Lab operates with an annual budget of around $150 million.

She said the lab is working to secure and improve the supply of high-purity niobium, which is crucial for the superconducting radio frequency cavities in particle accelerators. It is also used in advanced manufacturing. Most comes from Brazil, she said. Jefferson Lab scientists also collaborate with other national labs, universities and industry partners on niobium research and development.

The lab is also working with Hampton University Proton Cancer Institute to develop less invasive and more effective ways to treat cancer, Keppel added.

Submitted the following inquiry this am after the announced resignation of Stellantis' CEO:
Jim:

Is the abrupt resignation of Stellantis’ CEO, on the heels of the recent report of a 27% decline in Stellantis’ revenue and the 50% drop in its share price this year, likely to have any negative impact on the continuing negotiations with Stellantis to formalize the LOI for the offtake agreement, and a potential equity investment?

Response:

We do not expect it will impact our ongoing negotiations, which are now accelerating. Tavares was known to be leaving for months now. The new procurement team with whom we are working seems very focused on reaching an agreement, although a final deal remains to be consummated and there are no guarantees that one will be.

The US must beat China on critical minerals and advanced manufacturing
By Robbie Diamond and Morgan Ortagus
November 27, 2024

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/3244020/us-beat-china-critical-minerals-advanced-manufacturing/
If the right investments and policies are not advanced quickly, the economic and strategic ramifications could make the OPEC oil embargoes of the 1970s seem trivial by comparison. Without bolstering domestic and allied critical mineral production and processing, reforming regulatory frameworks, and securing the resources needed for energy transition and defense, the United States risks ceding technological and strategic leadership to China.
The new administration has a unique opportunity to reverse these dynamics and protect America and its allies from Beijing’s mineral extortion. First, the United States must harness its abundant natural resources by passing measures such as the Energy Permitting Reform Act, which has already garnered bipartisan support. Unlocking domestic energy infrastructure and mineral extraction potential while adhering to high environmental standards is essential to reducing dependence on foreign supply chains.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morgan_Ortagus
Morgan Deann Ortagus (born July 10, 1982) is an American television commentator, financial analyst, and political advisor who served as spokesperson for the United States Department of State from 2019 to 2021 during the Trump administration.

She previously held government positions as a deputy attaché and intelligence analyst at the United States Department of the Treasury and as a public affairs officer at USAID. Ortagus worked as national security contributor at Fox News prior to her appointment as State Department spokesperson.[2][3] She is an officer in the United States Navy Reserve.

She's on FOX, AND she's from Florida AND she's a beauty queen having won the Miss Florida Citrus title in 2003. Trump WILL listen! 😂

So 7500 tonnes is 7.5 million KG's @ $45.00 per, equals $337,500,000

Lots of upside for Titanium
https://www.metalary.com/titanium-price/

And then there is Scandium!

That's the problem! too many minerals, and too cumbersome to decide which one to promote.
Good excuse! lol

NioCorp should put in a revolving door at the front entrance, and then they will come to us.

Niobium: A metal of the future
04 November, 2024 WRITTEN BY Oliver Gray

https://mining.com.au/niobium-a-metal-of-the-future/
The niobium project pipeline
Though the world is short on mines dedicated to niobium production, that could change over the next few years as a number of late-stage developers make the jump to mining.

One of the most prominent near-stage assets is NioCorp Developments’ (NASDAQ:NB) Elk Creek Project in Nebraska. Located 129km south of Omaha, the project — when it comes online — will be the only niobium mine and the primary niobium processing facility in the US.

Already, NioCorp has secured all the necessary construction permits and contracted 75% of its planned ferroniobium production for the first 10 years of operation. According to a 2022 Feasibility Study, Elk Creek is expected to produce almost 7,500 tonnes of ferroniobium annually over a 38-year life, with production due to begin at the start of 2026.

It’s that time of year where we should all give thanks. Two years ago we were so thankful that Mark wanted us to merge with GXII. The NYC thugs have taken Mark and all of us to the cleaners. Happy Thugsgiving everyone!

With another Thanksgiving here upon us...... sometimes i feel like a Turkey walking to the NB Slaugterhouse when i see the .13 cent abysmal stock price......at this rate it would take a thousand shares just to buy a FRIKKIN TURKEY!!! cuz the leaders have gobbled up all the patience from every last investor.....
We hope for the best and hope that the worst (cuz it has been a shit show by all objective accounts) is behind us....

LET's GO NIOCORP!!! Let's make ALL THOSE TRIPS TO WASHINGTON D.C. PAY OFF!!! WE SEE EVERYONE AND THEIR BROTHER AND SISTER GETTING MORE FINANCIAL SUPPORTING LOVE (EVEN THE LATEST $26m FUNDING FOR THE MINING COMPANY PRODUCING NIOBIUM OXIDE !!!!) gosh..... everybody seems to be cutting in the Thanksgiving Dinner Buffet line.... in front of NioCorp.... even tho NIOCORP is sponsoring all these seminars/conferences!!! HUH??? WTF...... Maybe 2025 will be the YEAR that NIOCORP FINALLY (geee zusssss FINALLLLLLLLLLY) declares that they will IN FACT produce REE's..... You know you can't rush into these PR declarations..... HAHAHAHAHAHA........ gotta take the requisite 4 YEARS just to get that out definitively!!! ONLY IN NIO-VILLE does it take 4 hours to watch the show '60 Minutes'...... while the investors marvel at how our 'lil engine that could (or might) chugs along at mine speed (i.e., 1 step forward.... 4 steps back...... at 1 mph)
All our chips are on DOD now (to finance the FS and extra EXIM DD/Homework).....they (NIO Mangle-ment) always said the we would not desperately kneel at the gub'mint alter with hat in hand..... beholden to the elongated timelines and stops and starts and inherent and exasperating gubmint inefficiencies..... BUT HERE WE ARE...... God help us all...

Bingo! Well stated ge. Your posts have been spot on and the truth. I made inquiry following the election as to what effect, if any, the results of the election and the incoming administration would have on the pending items with DOD and EXIM. There are prior relationships between certain members of the NB management team and the incoming transition team. They have indeed been in daily contact and the Trump transition team is completely and totally supportive of the work DOD and EXIM are doing with NioCorp. Just "ignore" the noise from those who want this project to fail for their own selfish reasons.

Of course not. But the trump admin did nothing here from 2016-2020. I remember back then the same sentiment was frothing on this board. OMG Trump gonna make Niocorp Great Again! Ryan Zinke was gonna get it done! The July 2018 Senate hearing on critical minerals featuring Jim Sims was the start of the fire baby! Then, absolutely nothing happened. But wait! Air permit hits in June 2020 LIFTOFF BABYYY!! Annnnnd again, NOTHING.

We might be a bit more on the mineral hungry side this time, but Im not holding my breath. If they slash EPA rules that aren't a problem anyway for us, we are still flat broke. It can't hurt to reduce EPA rules in any raw material industry. If we got ground broken by the end of 2020, we might be just now producing usable materials. We missed the opportunity to stockpile for WWIII by about 4-8 years if the right's intention was to stockpile.
