NASA and Jefferson Lab fuel inventions and the regional economy, leaders say
https://www.pilotonline.com/2024/12/03/nasa-and-jefferson-lab-fuel-inventions-and-the-regional-economy-leaders-say/
Jefferson Lab in Newport News has made several scientific advances, particularly in particle physics and quantum mechanics, said Cynthia Keppel, associate director of experimental nuclear physics.
โWe are exploring the nature of matter,โ she said.
The facility, internationally known among the science community, has about 2,000 scientists exploring the nature of matter. There are 1,200 American scientists with the rest coming from all over the world.
The main attraction is the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility. It accelerates electrons to high energies using superconducting radio-frequency technology. The electron beam runs continuously. This allows for a high rate of data collection and high precision in experiments.
Shaped like a racetrack, the accelerator has two linear accelerators connected by arcs. Electrons circulate multiple times through these linear sections, gaining energy each time they pass. Then, they are sent to four experimental halls where different experiments can run simultaneously, she said.
โThis is research that canโt be done anywhere else,โ Keppel said.
There are 750 employees who are physicists, engineers, technicians and support staff. The lab also supports hundreds of additional jobs indirectly through local contracts and partnerships, particularly in Hampton Roads. Funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, Jefferson Lab operates with an annual budget of around $150 million.
She said the lab is working to secure and improve the supply of high-purity niobium, which is crucial for the superconducting radio frequency cavities in particle accelerators. It is also used in advanced manufacturing. Most comes from Brazil, she said. Jefferson Lab scientists also collaborate with other national labs, universities and industry partners on niobium research and development.
The lab is also working with Hampton University Proton Cancer Institute to develop less invasive and more effective ways to treat cancer, Keppel added.

Submitted the following inquiry this am after the announced resignation of Stellantis' CEO:
Jim:
Is the abrupt resignation of Stellantisโ CEO, on the heels of the recent report of a 27% decline in Stellantisโ revenue and the 50% drop in its share price this year, likely to have any negative impact on the continuing negotiations with Stellantis to formalize the LOI for the offtake agreement, and a potential equity investment?
Response:
We do not expect it will impact our ongoing negotiations, which are now accelerating. Tavares was known to be leaving for months now. The new procurement team with whom we are working seems very focused on reaching an agreement, although a final deal remains to be consummated and there are no guarantees that one will be.

The US must beat China on critical minerals and advanced manufacturing
By Robbie Diamond and Morgan Ortagus
November 27, 2024
https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/3244020/us-beat-china-critical-minerals-advanced-manufacturing/
If the right investments and policies are not advanced quickly, the economic and strategic ramifications could make the OPEC oil embargoes of the 1970s seem trivial by comparison. Without bolstering domestic and allied critical mineral production and processing, reforming regulatory frameworks, and securing the resources needed for energy transition and defense, the United States risks ceding technological and strategic leadership to China.
The new administration has a unique opportunity to reverse these dynamics and protect America and its allies from Beijingโs mineral extortion. First, the United States must harness its abundant natural resources by passing measures such as the Energy Permitting Reform Act, which has already garnered bipartisan support. Unlocking domestic energy infrastructure and mineral extraction potential while adhering to high environmental standards is essential to reducing dependence on foreign supply chains.

Morgan Deann Ortagus (born July 10, 1982) is an American television commentator, financial analyst, and political advisor who served as spokesperson for the United States Department of State from 2019 to 2021 during the Trump administration.
She previously held government positions as a deputy attaché and intelligence analyst at the United States Department of the Treasury and as a public affairs officer at USAID. Ortagus worked as national security contributor at Fox News prior to her appointment as State Department spokesperson.[2][3] She is an officer in the United States Navy Reserve.
She's on FOX, AND she's from Florida AND she's a beauty queen having won the Miss Florida Citrus title in 2003. Trump WILL listen! 😂

That Niobium would be the Primary Bread winner, riding a Dark Horse, per Landmark.
So 7500 tonnes is 7.5 million KG's @ $45.00 per, equals $337,500,000
https://www.metalary.com/niobium-price/
Lots of upside for Titanium
https://www.metalary.com/titanium-price/
*****
And then there is Scandium!
That's the problem! too many minerals, and too cumbersome to decide which one to promote.
Good excuse! lol
NioCorp should put in a revolving door at the front entrance, and then they will come to us.

What part of Revolving Door doesn't Dean Kehler understand?
The leaving part I assume!

Niobium: A metal of the future
04 November, 2024 WRITTEN BY Oliver Gray
https://mining.com.au/niobium-a-metal-of-the-future/
The niobium project pipeline
Though the world is short on mines dedicated to niobium production, that could change over the next few years as a number of late-stage developers make the jump to mining.
One of the most prominent near-stage assets is NioCorp Developmentsโ (NASDAQ:NB) Elk Creek Project in Nebraska. Located 129km south of Omaha, the project โ when it comes online โ will be the only niobium mine and the primary niobium processing facility in the US.
Already, NioCorp has secured all the necessary construction permits and contracted 75% of its planned ferroniobium production for the first 10 years of operation. According to a 2022 Feasibility Study, Elk Creek is expected to produce almost 7,500 tonnes of ferroniobium annually over a 38-year life, with production due to begin at the start of 2026.

Of course not. But the trump admin did nothing here from 2016-2020. I remember back then the same sentiment was frothing on this board. OMG Trump gonna make Niocorp Great Again! Ryan Zinke was gonna get it done! The July 2018 Senate hearing on critical minerals featuring Jim Sims was the start of the fire baby! Then, absolutely nothing happened. But wait! Air permit hits in June 2020 LIFTOFF BABYYY!! Annnnnd again, NOTHING.
We might be a bit more on the mineral hungry side this time, but Im not holding my breath. If they slash EPA rules that aren't a problem anyway for us, we are still flat broke. It can't hurt to reduce EPA rules in any raw material industry. If we got ground broken by the end of 2020, we might be just now producing usable materials. We missed the opportunity to stockpile for WWIII by about 4-8 years if the right's intention was to stockpile.
