Interactive Intelligence (Nasdaq: ININ), a global provider of
unified IP business communications solutions, has been named by
Forbes Magazine among America’s 100 Best Small Companies.
Interactive Intelligence was ranked 26th based on its earnings
growth, sales growth, and its return-on-equity over the last five
years.
“Our list of the 100 Best Small Companies in America assembles
firms with remarkable sales and earnings growth,” said Forbes
editors Brett Nelson and Kurt Badenhausen. “During the period
evaluated, Interactive Intelligence posted average sales growth of
21 percent, earnings-per-share of 43 percent, and return-on-equity
of 34 percent, thus earning a clear spot on our list.”
Forbes also ranked Interactive Intelligence founder and CEO, Dr.
Donald E. Brown, among its 10 Self-Made Small-Company Stars.
Dr. Brown graduated from Indiana University’s School of Medicine
in 1985 and holds two additional degrees in computer science and
physics. Interactive Intelligence is his third successful software
company. Since its founding in 1994, Dr. Brown has helped build the
company from a five-person start-up, to a publicly-traded company
with 3,500 global customers.
Interactive Intelligence 2009 revenues were $131.4 million, with
revenue growth for the first nine months of 2010 up 21 percent over
2009.
Interactive Intelligence develops business communications
software for contact center automation, enterprise IP telephony,
and business process automation. The company offers mid-size to
large organizations comprehensive solutions – from software,
hardware and consulting, to support, education and implementation
services – all delivered on-premise or via a cloud-based
communications-as-a-service model. Vertical specialties include
financial services, insurance, outsourcing/teleservices, and credit
and collections.
“It’s gratifying to be named to this prestigious Forbes list,
which demonstrates our successful sales performance and value to
shareholders,” Brown said. “We attribute much of our recent success
to continuing to win large enterprise telephony and contact center
business. In fact, we more than doubled our number of $1
million-plus orders in 2009 compared to 2008. We’re also seeing
huge interest in our cloud-based communications-as-a-service
business, which was up 59 percent in 2009 over the prior year.”
Candidates for America’s 100 Best Small Companies list must have
been publicly traded for at least one year, report annual revenues
between $5 million and $1 billion, and boast a stock price no lower
than $5 a share. When evaluating candidates for this year’s list,
Forbes dropped companies that were thinly traded or had
questionable accounting or legal troubles. Forbes also factored in
the stock performance of each company compared to that of its
peers.
