Akoustis Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKTS) (โAkoustisโ or the โCompanyโ), an integrated device manufacturer (IDM) of patented bulk acoustic wave (BAW) high-band RF filters for mobile and other wireless applications, announced that a leading commercial SATCOM company placed a new development order. Along with three existing customers, all utilize the Companyโs Process Design Kits (PDKs) and XBAW® foundry process to address applications in Satellite Communications, Wi-Fi, Mobile, and Defense.
Akoustis is a pureplay BAW filter company originally focused on an Integrated Device Manufacturer (IDM) model and has recently expanded to provide a BAW foundry servicing North America, Europe, and Asia regions. The Companyโs foundry services are primarily focused on 2 to 20 GHz in Commercial and Defense applications. In addition, Akoustis has released its new XBAW® Synthesizer software available for parties to explore the performance of XBAW® technology through the Companyโs website. The software allows users to input parameters, such as bandwidth, rejection, and return loss, to generate a filter response and download the filter design s-parameter file.
The Companyโs XBAW® PDK provides designers the capability to create, simulate, draft, and validate designs prior to submitting them to Akoustisโ foundry for chip manufacturing. The XBAW® PDK will streamline the design process and increase chances of first-pass successful filter design. The XBAW® PDK offers a synthesizer for designs to work within the AWR environment and a layout automation tool. The layout generated, along with other fabrication layers, enables the final die layout ready for full 3D EM simulation in one step.
Jeff Shealy, founder and CEO of Akoustis, stated, โWith the release of our new XBAW® synthesizer software and integration of the PDK download, we are empowering all levels of engineering to design BAW RF filters expanding above 10 GHz.โ Mr. Shealy continued, โAs we continue to receive new orders for our foundry services, the XBAW® PDK is a revolutionary development offering a comprehensive toolkit, which accelerates the design process and equips us to meet and exceed the demands of our existing customer base, keeping us at the forefront of RF advancements.โ
Akoustis maintains its momentum with robust demand and an expanding sales pipeline for its XBAW® filter products, in addition to its new XBAW®/SAW resonator and oscillator products, and semiconductor back-end services. The Company continues to secure new design wins in its target markets including Wi-Fi, 5G Infrastructure, and Automotive, many of which are slated to ramp into production in the coming months.

Akoustis Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKTS) (โAkoustisโ or the โCompanyโ), an integrated device manufacturer (IDM) of patented bulk acoustic wave (BAW) high-band RF filters for mobile and other wireless applications, announced that it has received three new Wi-Fi 6E design wins for carrier-class applications.
Two design wins are for a leading European carrier-class Wi-Fi OEM that will be using the Akoustis 5.5 GHz and 6.5 GHz standard XBAW® coexistence filter solutions, as well as the 5.6 GHz and 6.6 GHz standard XBAW® coexistence filter solutions that allows for greater usage of the U-NII 4 band. The first Wi-Fi 6E router is expected to ramp production by the end of calendar 2022 and the second router is expected to begin ramping by the end of the March 2023 quarter. The third design win is for a global network communication solutions provider that will be using the Akoustis 5.6 GHz and 6.6 GHz standard XBAW® coexistence solutions to sell a Wi-Fi 6E extender to its carrier partner, with a production ramp expected by August of calendar 2023.
Dave Aichele, EVP of Business Development at Akoustis, stated, โWe are expanding the number of new customers in high-frequency, advanced Wi-Fi systems with consumer, enterprise and now carrier-class design wins.โ Mr. Aichele continued, โThe interest in our portfolio of next generation Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 devices that offer superior performance in chip scale packages continues to grow and we expect numerous additional design wins in the coming months.โ
Earlier in October, Akoustis announced new next generation Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 filter solutions designed to meet the stringent rejection requirements enabling coexistence with the U-NII 1-3 and U-NII 5-8 frequency bands. They offer what Akoustis believes is the best out-of-band rejection capability available today, and at a significantly reduced size given Akoustisโ new chip-scale packages manufactured in its Upstate New York semiconductor chip fabrication facility.
Akoustis is currently ramping commercial production and is investing to achieve annual production capacity of approximately 500 million units. Akoustis is actively delivering volume production of its Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E tandem filter solutions, shipping multiple 5G small cell XBAW® filter solutions and delivering initial designs of its new 5G mobile filter solutions to multiple customers. To date, Akoustis has received more than 20 customer design wins for its patented XBAW® filter solutions.

-- Akoustis to Produce Filters for 5G Mobile Smartphones and Other Devices
-- Production Ramp Expected in 2 Half of Calendar 2022
Akoustis Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKTS) ("Akoustis" or the "Company"), an integrated device manufacturer (IDM) of patented bulk acoustic wave (BAW) high-band RF filters for mobile and other wireless applications, announced today that it has signed a foundry agreement with a mobile RF front-end customer for the manufacture of XBAW filters for 5G mobile handsets and other wireless devices.
Akoustis will manufacture the new high frequency RF filter using its patented and proprietary XBAW process at its fab in Canandaigua, NY. The foundry agreement was reached after the customer evaluated initial filter samples that Akoustis delivered in the March 2021 quarter. Akoustis plans to ship additional samples in the second half of calendar 2021 that utilize its new wafer chip-scale packaging. The customer is expected to ramp volume production by the second half of calendar 2022.
Jeff Shealy, founder, and CEO of Akoustis, stated, "Entering the 5G Mobile Smartphone filter market is a significant milestone for our team. Achieving first pass success with the XBAW filter that we previously delivered to our second mobile RF front-end customer has now resulted in our first foundry agreement for smartphones and other wireless devices." Mr. Shealy continued, "The mobile handset BAW filter market is our largest potential intermediate-to-long term market opportunity by both unit volume and revenue and this agreement positions Akoustis to generate significant incremental unit and revenue growth in the second half of calendar 2022 and beyond."
Akoustis is actively delivering volume production of its WiFi 6 tandem filter solutions, shipping multiple 5G small cell XBAW filter solutions, delivering initial designs of its new 5G mobile filter solutions to multiple customers and is now entering the market with its new WiFi 6E coexistence XBAW filter solutions.
Given the rapidly growing sales funnel activity as well as ongoing interaction with customers regarding expected ramps in both 5G mobile and WiFi 6E in calendar 2022, the Company plans to increase the annual production capacity at its New York fab by the end of calendar 2021 to approximately 500 million filters per year.
Akoustis currently has 15 commercial XBAW filters in its product catalog, and recently introduced 5.6 GHz and 6.6 GHz WiFi 6E coexistence filter modules, which when qualified, will bring the number of catalog products to 17. Current product catalog filters include a 5.6 GHz WiFi filter, a 5.2 GHz WiFi filter, a 5.5 GHz WiFi-6E filter, a 6.5 GHz WiFi 6E filter, three small cell 5G network infrastructure filters including two Band n77 filters and one Band n79 filter, a 3.8 GHz filter and five S-Band filters for defense phased-array radar applications, a 3.6 GHz filter for the CBRS 5G infrastructure market and a C-Band filter for the unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) market. The Company is also developing several new filters for the sub-7 GHz bands targeting 5G mobile device, network infrastructure, WiFi CPE and defense markets.
