EDS-Led Consortium Named Preferred Bidder for U.K. Ministry of
Defence Infrastructure Project Estimated $4 billion contract would
represent largest win since 2002 PLANO, Texas, March 2
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- EDS today confirmed its 'ATLAS
Consortium' has been selected as the preferred bidder for the first
"increment" of the United Kingdom Ministry of Defence (MoD) Defence
Information Infrastructure Future (DII [F]) project. Increment one
is estimated at 2.3 billion pounds or approximately $4 billion
(U.S.) over 10 years. This represents EDS' single largest contract
win since 2002. The DII (F), which will consolidate numerous
existing information networks into a single next-generation
infrastructure, is an integral component of the U.K.'s future
military strategy. The network will provide seamless interaction
between headquarters, battlefield support and the front line,
linking about 150,000 desktop terminals and 300,000 users in
approximately 2,000 locations. EDS and its subcontractors, Fujitsu
Services, EADS Defence and Security Systems, General Dynamics and
LogicaCMG, expect to finalize the contract within the next 30 days
and begin work in April. "EDS and our ATLAS Consortium partners are
honored to have been selected as preferred bidders on this landmark
project," said Mike Jordan, EDS chairman and CEO. "The selection
validates EDS' leading position in the U.K. government and defense
markets and marks a major milestone for the company. We'll apply
the commercial, technical and operational lessons we've learned
through our work with the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps to deliver a
superior next-generation infrastructure to the Ministry of Defence
and significant value to U.K. taxpayers." About EDS EDS provides a
