Dow Jones News
--BBVA Executive Chairman Francisco Gonzalez will propose to the
European Central Bank that incumbent chief executive Carlos Torres
replaces him at the helm of the bank, reports El Confidencial,
citing unnamed sources.
--If the ECB doesn't accept having Mr. Torres as an executive
chairman--and prefers one with a more institutional role--the bank
will propose Jaime Caruana to this position, according to sources,
says El Confidencial. This would mean that all executive power will
fall on Mr. Torres as CEO.
--Mr. Gonzalez will retire in 2019, when he reaches 75 years of
age.
