Middlesex County Fire Academy hosts fire demonstration
July 13,2017

SAYREVILLE — The Middlesex County Fire Academy hosted a showcase for a new technology on Wednesday, as M. Fire Suppression Inc. displayed how its AF31 chemical can greatly reduce the spread and intensity of a fire.
Led by the company’s founder and president, Steve Conboy, the demonstration showed how objects sprayed with the chemical can withstand even the strongest fires.
The product has the potential to make firefighters safer, give them more time to respond to calls, and save the lives and homes of thousands of people, company officials said.
“There’s 40 wildfires burning right now, OK?” Conboy said. “And when someone loses a home, it’s almost apocalyptic, when you got a wildfire burning through and you’re leaving your driveway as if you may never see your home again.

The chemical, which effectively protected a Christmas tree and model house during the demonstration, is safe for use around children, and works by combining with the free radicals generated from wood combustion.
In addition to its chemical spray, M. Fire also produces lumber and other building materials that are designed to inhibit the spread of fires. This technology was shown in its floor system burn demonstration, where cinder blocks were used to replicate the weight of firefighters, who often fall through burning floors.
The event not only drew attendance from Middlesex County firefighters, but also members of the Fire Department of New York (FDNY).
While Conboy’s company has not yet sold its chemical spray, it plans to tour across North America to perform live demonstrations for its technology. Additionally, M. Fire will be handling the reconstruction of the Avalon Edgewater apartment complex, which burned down in 2015.
“You get a fireman that leaves his family in the morning — you don’t know if he’s coming home,” Conboy said. “So we wanna do everything we can to show them that there’s products to make wood frame building safer for them. And they’re (firefighters) the best people to have behind us.”
