Service Creation Community Highlights Broadband Uptake and
Applications and Business Models Driving Growth SCC Introduces
Industry-Intensive Workgroup Format FREMONT, Calif., March 25
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Service Creation Community (SCC), an
independent organization dedicated to fast-tracking new
communications services and service provider revenues, announced
today that it will hold its next general meeting for members and
qualifying members from March 30-31, 2004. This meeting will
highlight broadband issues, and features speakers from the
investment and industry analyst communities, as well as provide the
springboard for the SCC's new industry workgroups. W. Stephen
Kamman, executive director of equity research with CIBC World
Markets will address the broadband "tipping point" of 20%
penetration and resulting new service opportunities. Kamman, who
covers the equipment space for telecommunications, cable, data and
storage area networking for CIBC, has recently written on the
broadband emerging majority and notes that "critical mass IS the
killer app." According to Kamman, "It is worth remembering that the
Internet is a highly flexible network that is capable of carrying
almost any type of traffic supporting a potentially infinite number
of applications." Citing confidence that widespread broadband
deployment will lead to the development of new applications, he
added, "Whether that new application revolves around downloads,
real-time gaming, streaming, online baby-cams, or something from
far left field isn't really important. What is important is that
when a critical mass of wealthy US consumers start doing something,
it tends to make waves." Also addressing the SCC is Stephane Teral,
Managing Director of telecommunications industry analyst RHK, Inc.
RHK has recently launched its Broadband Content and Services
program. Teral will discuss applications and new business models
that are driving broadband growth, highlighting topics such as the
online entertainment market, economics of online content and
distribution, as well as innovative broadband access service
providers. Additionally, the SCC will launch its new
industry-intensive workgroup platform. The initial program will
include workgroups on Wi-Fi Applications, Network Monitoring and
Systems Management, Quality of Service (QoS) Issues in IP
Networking, and Storage Area Networking. At this inaugural event,
each workgroup will establish the objectives and deliverables that
will facilitate the SCC's primary focus of delivering new services
pilots. New member introductions will come from Bridgewater Systems
and Sandial Systems. SCC members should register from the Service
Creation Community's website at
