Uber Technologies Inc. said Wednesday that it will launch its Uber Eats food delivery platform in Germany over the next few weeks.

The gig-economy firm said it will launch the platform as part of a continuing investment in the country.

"Based on feedback from restaurants and communities, we believe there is strong demand for more food delivery services and a more competitive market," a spokesman for Uber said.

Shares in New York at 1341 GMT were down 25 cents, or 0.5%, at $55.21.
