Good riddance actually... It's an albatross around our necks anyway. Who knows when we'd see any production out of it.

Meanwhile Globe and Mail is speculating that Kinross is a takeover target, and specifically mentions Barrick as a likely suitor.

"...Kinross Gold seeks to divest its Russian assets, says in exclusive negotiations with potential buyer..."

"... Kinross added it has received a number of unsolicited proposals regarding its Russian business and is now in exclusive negotiations with a third-party mining company regarding a potential sale of 100% of its assets in the country.

“Any such divesture or change of control would be subject to Russian government approval,” the company noted in a statement.

The company also said that its Russian subsidiaries are continuing to operate during the transition period and that it will also continue to manage and mitigate the environmental impacts of its operations.

“The parent company will not benefit financially from the operations while the transition plan is finalized. Current activities will be funded through resources already in-country, with no additional investment required by the parent company,” Kinross said in a press-release...."

Joe,

I agree on the moral compass and the business world needs to react to unwarranted adventures by "thugs". However, I expect a proper evaluation of company activities in regard to world events.

We had a very strong feeling Russia would invade and we also had significant warning on how the world would react. Telling us all is well three days before a probable invasion was really poor management. Tell us the truth and what would be the impacts is high class. I believe knowledgeable adults can handle anything.

This is not the first management failure. A quick look:

During the five years after the acquisition, Kinross recorded impairment charges related to Tasiast as follows:

2011 - $US 2.490 billion[25]
2012 - $US 3.416 billion[25]

Tasiast pit in Mauritania, 2014.
2013 - $US 1.488 billion[26]
2014 - $US 0.505 billion[26]
2015 - $US 0.259 billion[27]

ALERT!!!!!!!

Kinross suspended its Russian operations. This will result in a 350,000 ounce loss of gold production if the war continues, and sanctions remain.

The financial impact would be a LOSS of $C525 million if the matter continues for the rest of the year. This represents a 13% reduction in gold produced.

And we were told on February 23rd all was fine and the mine would continue operations. This is very poor management in my opinion. We, as investors, depend on their experience to protect our investment. Remember it is OUR money NOT theirs. Not a happy camper!

$ KGC. Toronto, Ontario, July 15, 2021 – Kinross Gold Corporation (TSX: K; NYSE: KGC) (“Kinross” and the “Company”) is pleased to announce today that it has signed a definitive agreement (“Agreement”) with the Government of Mauritania (“Government”) to provide enhanced certainty on Tasiast economics.

The Agreement confirms the same key terms of the agreement in principle signed on June 15, 2020, including:

The continuation of tax exemptions on fuel duties.
The repayment by the Government to Kinross of approximately $40 million in outstanding VAT refunds

[2].
The payment by the Company to the Government of $10 million to resolve disputed matters.

The introduction of an updated escalating royalty structure1 tied to the gold price aligns with current Mauritanian mining legislation and is comparable to other royalties in the region.
· The nomination of two observers by the Government to the Board of Directors of the Kinross subsidiary operating the Tasiast mine.

Mauritania’s Minister of Petroleum, Mines, and Energy, Abdessalem Ould Mohamed Saleh, reiterated the Government’s solidarity and support for the Company during his two-day visit to Tasiast in late June 2021. The Minister met with Kinross officials and toured the mine, including the area of the recent mill fire, and was briefed on the progress of the 24k expansion project. The Company and Government are focused on the goal of restarting milling operations at Tasiast and are prioritizing efforts and processes to achieve this shared objective.

Tasiast Sud is not included in this simplified Agreement and is not part of the 24k expansion project, Tasiast’s current life of mine production plan, and Kinross’ mineral reserve and resource estimates. Kinross and the Government will continue to focus on the shared goal of restarting the Tasiast mill and discussions respecting the prospective Tasiast Sud area are expected to continue.

“We are pleased to finalize the balanced agreement with the Government of Mauritania to further strengthen our longstanding and constructive relationship,” said J. Paul Rollinson, Kinross Gold President, and CEO. “We look forward to continuing delivering strong results at Tasiast for the benefit of both Kinross and Mauritania.”

“The completion of this agreement is a testament to the quality of the strategic partnership between the Government of Mauritania and Kinross. The agreement is also indicative of the Government’s commitment and focuses on attracting responsible, experienced and long-term private sector partners in Mauritania to carry out projects that advance the country’s development and provide benefits to its people,” said Minister Saleh.

I sold my position seeing gold is not really being used as a hedge for inflation as it has been in the past. Instead i`ve moveed those assets to MLP`s in the energy sector and Bitcoin. I do not believe Powell when he says inflation is transitory even though he is just playing to the party line.

Since I sold out of my gold positions i`m up on paper and see energy & Bitcoin as the perfect inflation hedge. GLTU if your still hold gold. I believe it will be rocky for the miners for years going forward.

Kinross Gold Corp. Becomes Oversold
Legendary investor Warren Buffett advises to be fearful when others are greedy, and be greedy when others are fearful. One way we can try to measure the level of fear in a given stock is through a technical analysis indicator called the Relative Strength Index, or RSI, which measures momentum on a scale of zero to 100. A stock is considered to be oversold if the RSI reading falls below 30.

In trading on Friday, shares of Kinross Gold Corp. (TSE:K.CA) entered into oversold territory, hitting an RSI reading of 29.4, after changing hands as low as $8.31 per share. By comparison, the current RSI reading of the S&P/TSX Composite Index is 61.3. A bullish investor could look at K.CA's 29.4 RSI reading today as a sign that the recent heavy selling is in the process of exhausting itself, and begin to look for entry point opportunities on the buy side. The chart below shows the one year performance of K.CA shares:

Looking at the chart above, K.CA's low point in its 52 week range is $4 per share, with $13.59 as the 52 week high point — that compares with a last trade of $8.31.

Been here for some time and a little disappointed by the price action since the results, but you can't print Gold, Silver, Lithium and the like, after the initial market pop from the next round of Democratic stimulus, its inevitable that a market crash and recession will soon follow, we can't just keep printing money. Miners, rare earth exploration companies are going to be on the rise an prices now are great entry levels after the recent pull back of rare earths, gold being a great example. I'm already long here and BMIX, but also eyeing KOREF, JUPGF, NKOSF, and DSCR all of which I think are very undervalued and will pop once Gold reverses!
