Origin isn’t touting this innovation as the first-ever PET cap, but rather an option that’s not commonly available in the market and could be transformational for the sector, Bissell said.
“It’s not as though we’re the first people ever to try to make a PET cap for bottles. ... It’s that they weren’t successful for a variety of reasons,” Bissell said. “That’s what we really solve — we’re processing the material differently so that we can get to a cap economically that fits to an 1881 standard bottle.”
.
Tethering caps to the bottle is one way to ensure they’re recovered, and the concept is included in EU single-use plastic legislation set to take effect next year. Tethering keeps the cap affixed to the bottle with the plastic tamper-evident band once a user breaks the band upon opening the bottle. Tetra Pak is among the companies preemptively introducing tethered caps, as is Berry Global via a partnership with Coca-Cola. Bissell said tethering will be an option for Origin’s PET cap customers.
Bissell said the plants for manufacturing Origin’s PET caps will be different from the company’s biomass-based PET component plants

It’s also a quandary for the consumer packaged-good industry. Under pressure from activist shareholders and governments, companies like Coca-Cola (ticker: KO), Mondelez International (MDLZ), and Nestlé (NSRGY) have promised to cut back on new plastic and use more recycled content. Yet progress reports show many companies using more plastic and falling short of sustainability targets—colliding with market forces that are making it tougher to cut back.

- partners "with no changes needed to their tooling or production processes."
"We successfully completed our third manufacturing development run on production-scale equipment, producing thousands of caps per hour. Our initial product passed third-party tests, validating that performance meets or exceeds industry standards, and we have conducted preliminary consumer testing. Our partners have conducted extensive diligence and demonstrated strong organizational alignment across procurement, R&D, marketing, and sustainability to move forward with Origin's solution.
And we are now at the letter-of-intent phase with multiple leading CPG companies that collectively consume tens of billions of caps per year. "

Origin saw $13 million in revenues from partners in the 4th quarter. Partners are more than just interested.

"independent of the scale-up of our biomass conversion technology "
from Q4 CC;
...we now have a path to profitability entirely independent of the scale-up of our biomass conversion technology and related manufacturing plant construction. These initiatives are led by our all-PET caps and closures business, a highly differentiated solution for the over $65 billion caps and closures market.
.
If profitable numbers are possible as soon as '25 there must be someone running trials now and are ready for licensing? Independent of scale-up is a huge statement. The partners looking to get into PET caps will be using in house materials.
Gets better;
Other near-term revenue-generating technologies are in development. Like our all-PET caps and closures, these new applications enabled by Origin technologies are NOT DEPENDENT ON ORIGIN 1 OR ORIGIN 2 FOR PRODUCTION AND sale but capable of using materials produced from these plants. These applications leverage Origin’s chemical expertise, depth of application knowledge, and intellectual property, with further details to be provided as development progresses

Maersk completed the first bio-methanol voyage this year. To get enough green methanol it was collected at landfills.

Capacity needs to rev up – and fast
Though there is great optimism for green methanol within the shipping industry, there are still significant hurdles across the value chain for widespread methanol adoption. BNEF’s database of upcoming green methanol projects forecasts an annual capacity of 5.5 million metric tons by 2027 – roughly 11 times the capacity today.
This is an enormous increase, but it’s just a fraction of what is needed.

The 'radical pivot" Wall Street says revealed suddenly in last Q. Versus Science review from 2021
Origin’s technology begins with the controlled acid degradation of biomass into CMF. The control and optimization of this reaction is Origin’s primary value addition and core innovation. The reaction producing CMF also produces a carbonaceous byproduct, hydrothermal carbon (HTC), in quantities on the order of twice that of CMF (depending on feedstock), as well as several other byproducts. As a result, monetizing HTC is important to Origin’s economics. Origin plans to use HTC as a fuel and target renewable energy markets in the near-term but plans to develop higher value end-uses in the future.
