Exxon Mobil reported a leak at a unit of its Baytown oil refinery in Texas that then led to excessive gas emissions.

"The Hydroformer Unit 4 Tower 451 recycle line experienced a leak resulting in emissions to atmosphere," the refinery said in a statement to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, noting the emissions ended Thursday, lasting about three hours.

"HF-4 was shut down and the leak was isolated," the refinery added. "Available information, including fenceline monitoring conducted by Exxon Mobil as a precautionary measure, indicates no adverse environmental impact to the site and surrounding community."

The 584,000-barrel-a-day Baytown refinery is 25 miles east of Houston.
