Fifth Third Bank (NASDAQ:FITB) today announced it is sending two
financial empowerment mobiles (eBuses) to Florida to help in the
aftermath of Hurricane Irma. Branches began opening Tuesday
morning, and to date, more than 125 of the Bank’s 150 financial
centers in Florida have reopened. The eBuses will serve as a
station to apply for FEMA assistance, use a Wi-Fi hotspot, charge
phones and cool off.
The first eBus arrives in Tampa on Friday and will be in Naples
and Daytona Beach next week. Fifth Third also has placed two mobile
ATMS in Florida in areas where many ATMs aren’t working – one in
Naples and one in Daytona Beach. The ATMs and eBuses will be moved
as the Bank assesses the communities’ needs.
“Our families, customers and communities have encountered
hardship, and small sources of relief and comfort can make a big
difference for all of us that have been impacted,” said David Call,
regional president for Fifth Third in Florida. “We are responding
quickly to provide monetary support for relief efforts, access to
cash via mobile ATMs and aid through our eBuses to Florida
communities that need it most. We also are launching an assistance
program to help our customers as they get back on their feet.”
The Bank is making a $250,000 donation to the American Red Cross
to support hurricane relief efforts. Fifth Third also will match
donations from employees, customers and the community through an
American Red Cross microsite, www.redcross.org/fifththirdbank-pub,
up to an additional $250,000, through Oct. 31. Donations are
tax-deductible and the minimum donation is $10.
For customers, Fifth Third’s assistance program encompasses the
entire state of Florida and includes waiving or refunding some fees
and providing some special relief. For a full list of assistance,

For the most up-to-date information about the status of local
financial centers, go to 53.com/irmasupport, or log in to accounts
through online banking at 53.com or with a mobile device at 53.com.
Customers can continue to access accounts 24/7 and can transfer
money, any time, from anywhere.
The Bank is grateful that all of its 1,159 Florida employees are
safe.
“We are just beginning to understand the personal impact of this
storm and the effect it will have on all of us,” Call said.
“Fortunately, we have the support of 18,000 employees to help us
get through it.”
Fifth Third is providing a concierge service for its Florida
employees to help with making hotel or car reservations, finding
contractors or ordering supplies among other services. The free
concierge service will be provided through the end of the year to
assist its employees recovering from the hurricane. A robust
Employee Assistance Program also offers information and resources
that are hurricane-specific.
