Boingo Fuels International Expansion, Adds Three Airports in China
Boingo Portfolio of Managed Wi-Fi to Include Four of the Top Five Airports in China, Serving More Than 195 Million Passengers Annually
LOS ANGELES, May 08, 2013 (BUSINESS WIRE) --
Boingo Wireless WIFI +0.32% , the leading DAS and Wi-Fi provider that serves consumers, carriers and advertisers worldwide, today announced agreements to provide managed Wi-Fi services at three major airports in China: Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN), Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA).
Boingo Wi-Fi services are now available at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN), and will soon be available at the two Shanghai airports. With the launch of services at these three airports, Boingo will offer premium Wi-Fi services at four of the top five most highly trafficked airports in China, which collectively serve more than 195 million travelers annually. Boingo will be the first international Wi-Fi service provider at these three airports, and secured the rights through an agreement with Newbridge Technology Co., Ltd.
Boingo will broadcast its "Boingo Hotspot" SSID in all three airports, providing full management of the user experience with the company's globally recognized service to ensure quick, quality connections for travelers. Boingo's managed Wi-Fi service includes authentication, roaming access and 24-hour support. Boingo already offers premium Wi-Fi service at the most highly trafficked airport in Asia, Beijing Capital International, as well as more than 65 other airports around the world.
"The PVG, SHA and CAN airports are increasingly important hubs, making them ideal places to introduce our money-saving Wi-Fi plans to international travelers," said Allen Pan, Boingo's director of Asia Pacific. "International cellular roaming tariffs continue to be costly and inconsistent throughout the Asia Pacific region. Our neutral host Wi-Fi roaming platform provides reliable connectivity to users, and helps eliminate that month-end 'bill shock' that so many travelers experience."
Premium Wi-Fi service at these airports will also be available to Boingo's roaming and platform service partners, including Orange France, NTT DOCOMO, Skype, TeliaSonera, LGU+, Korea Telecom, Telefonica, and Verizon, which wholesale Wi-Fi access from Boingo and provide self-branded Wi-Fi to their customers as part of their existing services.
Passengers can access Boingo Wi-Fi at these three airports via one of Boingo's access plans, including Boingo Asia Pacific, providing unlimited access throughout the Asia Pacific region for $11.95 per month, and Boingo Global, providing flat rate access anywhere in the world for $59 per month. Hourly and day pass options are also available.
Boingo is the leading provider of airport Wi-Fi in North America and Europe, and was named "Best Wi-Fi Service" in the 2012 Global Traveler "GT Tested" Awards. The company manages Wi-Fi services at more than 65 leading airports worldwide, including other high-traffic airports in the Asia-Pacific region such as Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International and Phuket International Airport, as well as international hubs London Heathrow, Chicago O'Hare, New York John F. Boingo Wireless Appoints Nick Hulse President
Telecom and Digital Media Veteran to Drive Revenue Growth Across Business Units
LOS ANGELES, May 6, May 06, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE via COMTEX) --
Boingo Wireless WIFI +0.16% , the leading DAS and Wi-Fi provider that serves consumers, carriers and advertisers worldwide, today announced that Nick Hulse has been appointed President of the company. He will report to CEO Dave Hagan and assumes day-to-day responsibilities for maximizing revenue through the Sales, Marketing, Product, and Business Development teams.
Hulse brings nearly 25 years of executive experience in sales, marketing, and operations positions, most recently as the Chief Revenue Officer for the Rubicon Project where he was responsible for all company revenues, client services, marketing, technical operations, and international teams. He has previously held senior executive roles with iPass and Microsoft.
"Nick brings deep experience in industry sectors where we have significant growth potential," said Hagan, Boingo Wireless CEO. "He has a history of successfully helping companies scale their revenues and maximize growth opportunities."
"Since we've expanded our monetization platform considerably over the last year, we believe it's time to bring in a dedicated executive who can drive growth and manage the execution against those opportunities," added Hagan.
"Boingo has built a strong, diversified platform with a tremendous opportunity to grow much larger," said Hulse, president of Boingo Wireless. "As the wireless industry looks to small cell providers like Boingo to help build the infrastructure to support exploding demand for data - and to provide services to help monetize that demand - we'll be front and center to capitalize on their interest."
With the acquisitions of Cloud Nine Media in 2012 and the Endeka Group in 2013, Boingo has expanded its global wireless service provider business to also include digital media and sponsorships, as well as military base broadband and IPTV services. Combined with elevated interest in both DAS and Wi-Fi networks in public venues, the new business lines create a unique portfolio of properties with a diversified monetization platform that will be cultivated by Hulse.

April 10, 2013 09:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time
DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Boingo Wireless (NASDAQ: WIFI), the Wi-Fi industry’s leading provider of software and services worldwide, today announced the availability of its new state-of-the-art neutral host Wi-Fi network at Dallas Love Field, in conjunction with the airport’s launch of its upgraded North Concourse. The new carrier-grade 802.11n network has been optimized to serve increasing crowds of passengers with mobile devices using Wi-Fi to enhance their experience in the airport.
“We look forward to continuing our work with Dallas Love Field to enhance customer satisfaction and provide new monetization opportunities via our advanced wireless network.”
In addition to the new WLAN network, Boingo will soon launch a new multi-carrier DAS network in the modernized and expanded terminal, delivering enhanced performance for carriers and their customers, and introducing new revenue opportunities to the airport. Boingo’s neutral host approach to Wi-Fi and DAS ensures network availability to all wireless service providers without bias, including Boingo’s roaming and platform service partners such as Sprint, Skype, Verizon and NTT DOCOMO.
“Boingo’s state-of-the-art network is the perfect complement to the newly modernized, world-class Dallas Love Field,” said Mark Duebner, Director of Aviation for the City of Dallas. “Boingo’s best-in-class wireless services help us deliver on our promise to provide the most advanced and desirable amenities to passengers at the new Love Field.”
“Our new wireless network was designed to expand with Dallas Love Field, and to handle the projected explosive growth in data traffic from consumer demand and the coming Wi-Fi offload protocols,” said Mark Deshaies, vice president, operations for Boingo Wireless. “We look forward to continuing our work with Dallas Love Field to enhance customer satisfaction and provide new monetization opportunities via our advanced wireless network.”
Designed to grow with Dallas Love Field, the new high-density Boingo Wi-Fi network provides high-speed, high-capacity wireless connectivity and flexible service options for business and leisure travelers. Casual Wi-Fi users can enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi as they explore Dallas Love Field’s new concourse and amenities, while premium service is available for travelers engaging in data-intensive activities. Boingo’s popular tiered Wi-Fi services allow leading airports like Love Field to provide best-in-class Wi-Fi services while generating revenue to reinvest in the network and the continued modernization of the airport.
In addition to offering high performance connectivity to travelers, the new Boingo network will also facilitate the delivery of a wide range of communications services to Dallas Love Field tenants and passengers, including hold-room entertainment.
Boingo began managing the Wi-Fi customer experience at Dallas Love Field in 2012, utilizing the airport’s existing wireless infrastructure during the construction of the new network, which was developed and implemented in partnership with MS Benbow & Associates. Boingo is a leading operator of airport wireless networks, and the largest neutral host provider of airport DAS in the United States. Boingo: Street Picks Up Coverage; Gets 4 Thumbs Up From Bankers
Jun. 13 2011 - 9:44
By ERIC SAVITZ
http://blogs.forbes.com/ericsavitz/2011/06/13/boingo-street-picks-up-coverage-gets-4-thumbs-up-from-bankers/?partner=yahootix
Analysts at the four investment banks that took Boingo Wireless this morning launched coverage of the WiFi hot spot provider – and I know you’ll be shocked to hear this – they all recommend buying the stock. Boingo came public May 4 at $13.50 a share, and has since staged a banker-embarrassing full-scale collapse, closing Friday at $7.65. This morning, the analysts come riding to the rescue.
•Deutsche Bank analyst Brett Feldman launched with a Buy rating and $15 target. Feldman writes that there are three reasons to be bullish on the stock: the company should benefit from adoption of smartphones and tablets; an attractive recurring revenue model with low customer acquisition costs and low core cap ex; attractive valuation. He sees Boingo posting 2011 revenue of $93 million and profits of 13 cents a share, with 2012 revenue of $113 million and profits of 10 cents.
•Credit Suisse analyst John Blackledge launched with an Outperform rating and $14 target. “We expect strong top-line growth (mid-teens) and continued margin expansion over the next few years, driven by further subscriber adoption and continued solid wholesale growth,” he writes. “We believe the recent weakness in the stock is overdone and look at current levels as a good entry point for investors.” The Credit Suisse analyst attributes the sharp post-IPO fall in the stock to “general market conditions and potentially limited appetite for unproven public companies, despite strong near and longer term growth projections.” His forecast is for 2011 revenue of $108.9 million with profits of 30 cents a share, and 2012 revenue of $126.9 million and profits of 40 cents a share.
•William Blair analyst Jim Breen begins coverage with an Outperform rating. He sees at least 25% upside for the stock. He notes that the company “is believed to have the largest Wi-Fi hotspot footprint in the world,” with over 325,000 venues in more than 100 countries, including 85 of the top 100 most-trafficked airports globally.” He sees profits of 17 cents a share this year, and 26 cents next year.
•Pacific Crest analyst James Faucette picked up coverage with an Outperform rating and a $13 price target. “We believe that Boingo is a strong play on the rapidly growing use of Wi-Fi, driven by increasing wireless data traffic, increasing cellular data costs and the generally better performance that Wi-Fi can deliver,” he writes. “We believe that the market significantly underestimates the advantages that Boingo is developing in securing key high-traffic sites like O’Hare International Airport, Kennedy International Airport and Soldier Field, particularly given the huge wave of locations that we believe are likely to deploy Wi-Fi networks and services in the coming two to three years.” He sees profits of 13 cents a share this year and 28 cents next year.

This year, devices with embedded wireless local area networking (WLAN) capability will top one billion for the first time. By 2015, that number will double – and some people are terrified that their ubiquity will spark an electromagnetic apocalypse.
These figures come from a study published on Friday by IHS iSuppli. According to that research group's projections, worldwide shipments of WLAN-enabled devices will reach 1.2 billion in 2011, up over 35 per cent from 2010's 880.4 billion units. By 2015, IHS iSuppli projects that 2.2 billion of the devices will ship.
"In today's world of connected electronics, consumers expect seamless access to Internet communications, services and content in any place and at any time," said Dr. Jagdish Rebello, the research group's senior director and principal analyst for communications and consumer electronics.
Wireless devices poised to conquer the world (source: IHS iSuppli)
The growth in WLAN-enabled devices has been led by cell phones, with 512.8 million units projected to ship this year. Mobile PCs are a distant number two, with 230.1 million set to ship in 2011.
Future WLAN-enabled device growth, however, will be spurred by newer categories of embedded devices. IHS iSuppli contends that automotive installations will lead the growth curve, with a compound annual growth rate of 98.2 per cent from 2010 to 2015. WLAN-enabled televisions will be close behind, with a growth rate of 77.8 per cent during the same period.
While the technorati may welcome this burst of wireless connectivity, other segments of the population aren't so sure that such an increase in wireless communication is safe.
Take, for example, the groundswell of opposition to Califonia utility provider PG&E's efforts to equip its customers with RF-enabled, usage-tracking SmartMeters. These benighted devices have encountered a host of non-WLAN problems, such as exorbitant bills and alleged explosions, but it's their RF-communication ability that has set sensitive teeth on edge in the Golden State.
SmartMeters, according to some PG&E customers, have sparked cases of "electromagnetic hypersensitivity" (EHS), with symptoms ranging from rashes to dizziness to heart palpitations to what the World Health Organization delicately describes as "digestive disturbances".
That same WHO report on EHS, however, concludes that "EHS has no clear diagnostic criteria and there is no scientific basis to link EHS symptoms to EMF exposure."
That reassurance, however, didn't stop the EMF Safety Network from filing a formal complaint with the California Public Utilities Commission, claiming that "Scientific studies show evidence of biological harm from RF exposure, at levels far below the [Federal Communications Commission] safety standard."
It should be noted that SmartMeters emit about one watt of RF, which is less than most cell phones. And, needless to say, few PG&E customers hold their utility meters upside their heads.
Still, with a doubling of WLAN-capable devices by 2015, expect more and louder complaints from folks who claim that their electrical meters, cars, and televisions are out to get them. ®
