    BT ANNOUNCES BOND ISSUE FOR INTERNAL FINANCE

    British Telecommunications plc ("BT") today announced that it is issuing a bond to a BT group company. The bond issue provides
additional long term internal finance replacing short term internal funding. The bond listing has no effect on the net and gross debt
position of the BT group. 

    The new bond replaces the bond issued in December 2007 of notional value �3,154,023,644, the new notional value is �3,404,520,695.55.
The bond maturity remains 2019. The new bond will be listed on the Channel Islands Stock Exchange on 31st July 2008.
