VIENNA--The Austrian telecommunications company Telekom Austria
AG (TKA.VI) is looking for an investment bank to help them examine
possible acquisitions in Eastern Europe, the Austrian economic
daily Wirtschaftsblatt reports Tuesday.
Telekom Austria is particularly interested in smaller
acquisitions in countries where it is already active, the paper
reports citing a person with knowledge of the plans. The company is
eyeing not only mobile communications companies, but also fixed
network and cable television operators.
Telekom Austria's current Eastern European holdings might be
transferred into a holding company to allow Telekom Austria's
second largest shareholder Carlos Slim, through his Mexican
telecoms company America Movil S.A.B. de C.V. (AMX.MX), to provide
capital. America Movil would hold 79% of the holding company, with
Telekom Austria holding the remaining 21%, the paper reports.
A spokesman for Telekom Austria declined to comment on the
report.
