Nestle SA (NESN.EB) said Thursday that it is exploring strategic options for its skin-health unit, as the Swiss company puts its focus on food, beverage and nutritional health products.

Nestle said it has reached the conclusion that the future of the unit, which had sales of about 2.7 billion Swiss francs ($2.8 billion) in 2017 and employs more than 5,000 people, lies outside the company's strategic scope. A review is expected to be completed by mid-2019.

"Nestle Skin Health has made significant progress under its new leadership team over the past two years," said Chief Executive Mark Schneider.

"Now is the right time to explore the best ownership structure for Nestle Skin Health and to consider ways of taking it to the next level," he added.
