Infinite Group, Inc. (IMCI.OB) has expanded its Server
Virtualization Practice by becoming a VMware Authorized Consulting
(VAC) Partner with VMware. To achieve VAC status as a qualified
virtualization solutions provider, IGI had to go through a process
involving training, testing, and certification of our in-house
staff, said Michael S. Smith, IGIs President and CEO. VMware is
a leader in virtual infrastructure technology. VMwares 4 million
users and over 20,000 corporate customers depend on VMware and its
partners for solutions to their server consolidation, business
continuity, improved software development and testing, and desktop
manageability and security needs, said Mr. Smith. We are very
excited about our new partnership with VMware and look forward to
working with them as we develop this market. Server and desktop
virtualization is a rapidly growing mainstream technology that
offers significant growth opportunities, and we are well positioned
in this market. IGIs solution portfolio includes virtualization
by both hardware and operating system emulation on systems large
and small. As an example of that, IGI recently completed a
virtualization project involving approximately 1,000 servers for a
customer that owns one of the largest wide area networks in the
country. Early success led to a follow-on project for that same
customer involving an additional 1,600 servers currently under
design. These are production level servers that IGI operates and
manages post-virtualization. On the other side of the spectrum, IGI
also offers planning and consulting services for smaller clients.
We find that many clients want to install a virtual solution using
in-house personnel, but their day-to-day tasks limit the time they
can allocate to virtualization. By consulting with these clients,
we can guide them through the design, installation, and migration
processes while training them to operate the virtual environment,
said Jim Frost, IGIs Chief Operating Officer. IGI recently
received a task order to assist the Jackson Public School District
in Jackson, Mississippi with its virtualization plans. Server
Virtualization involves the creation, allocation, and management of
virtual machines, which entails the virtual representation of
hardware by a software system. What this means is that traditional
physical servers, which typically run at only 5-15% of their
capacity, can now be consolidated with the use of specialized
software such as VMware to increase server utilization by a factor
of ten to one or even greater. Reducing the number of physical
machines required in a typical environment provides numerous and
obvious benefits, including equipment cost savings, reduced
operational maintenance costs, easier backup, higher availability
and better security. Due to the substantial energy savings
resulting from reduced infrastructure, virtualization is also a
green technology. IGI has offices in Pittsford, New York, Vienna,
Virginia and Jackson, Mississippi. IGI provides business, program
management and information technology services and systems support
to government and commercial clients. Our work includes leading
edge operations supporting complex programs in advanced computing
environments (network services), wireless technology, human capital
services, financial services, enterprise architecture and earned
value management. We focus on aligning business processes with
technology for delivery of solutions meeting our clients exact
needs. For more information on IGI, please visit our website at
